Bent Magsafe port

i woke up this morning to the unpleasant surprise of a what looks like to me a bent port in my macbook pro with retina display,

i rang Apple and was told that they can do nothing about it.

althought the bent is only cosmetic and it doesnt effect the charging of the macbook i am very disappointment by this.

would anyone have any idea what could have happen to make this happen.

thank you for your time

All I can tell you is that it takes a fair amount of force to damage the aluminum case like that. It does not happen under normal use.

If you know for a fact that nobody dropped the computer, then somebody had to have dropped something reasonably heavy (and hard) on the power connector while it was plugged into your computer. Possibly a large book or something like it.

I have to disagree. With all that scarring inside the jack, it is possible for moisture to corrode it if it gets too close to it. I really would get that thing repaired, or replaced. Thankfully, you can always get the hard drive pulled out and buy a refurbished model for less.

And I agree, carrying it in a bag filled with books is not wise. Aluminum can bend. It is better to carry it in notebook bag that has some form of matted protection. The other thing to be careful of, is not to leave the power cord plugged in during transit. It is safer held inside a ziplock bag. Also make sure the power cord is NOT wrapped around the L shaped parts of the brick that pull out. Unfortunately that can get the cable so close that it frays where it goes into the brick.
