scanner recommendation

My friend from work just bought a mac mini intel duo core we upgraded the ram to 2gigs.He wants to archive his old photos on to the mac.Can anybody suggest a scanner to use.

I've always liked the Epson scanners although I've not bought one, let alone used one, for a long long time. By the way, are his photos print or slide?

He want to scan photos mostly I think.Do you think the canoscan 9950 is do much for his needs?Can he get similar results with the lower model scanner from canon.

Generally speaking I would recommend going with a mid-range scanner/printer rather than a low end model.
