I started the process of moving our itunes to an external drive. I (think) I followed directions I got on here. I checked the external and I see the music listed by artist in alphabetical order. But it does not look like it did before when it was listed in itunes. Just looks like a "list." Did I screw this up?
Update. I just tried to relaunch iTunes and held option button. Chose "iTunes" folder on external and only about 20 songs come up on it.. Closed it. Tried again and this time chose iTunes folder, then inside that the iTunes "media" folder where music and movies are.....and says it can't find library in that folder...so apparently I have to move something but I'm paranoid to do anything now that I found the missing music.
Ok. Choose the library that gave you the 20 songs.
When iTunes opens, drag the iTunes Media folder into the iTunes window that shows your library. It won't move or change the folder with the songs. It will just add everything to your library.
I did. It said it couldn't find library. So I reopened the one that had a few songs and went in to add to library. Chose the "media" folder and now it looks to be downloading a lot of files. A window is up saying organizing files and it looks like its going to be a while. Does that seem right?
Yes, it sounds like it is adding your media.
Sorry. I didn't see your last post about choosing the library with the 20 songs. This seems to be working. It's just gonna be a looonnnngggg day. But I'm glad I found the stuff. Thanks for your help all along. I'll check back later to see if this ends my saga.
My only concern at this point is you will end up with everything doubled.

Ok. It's all back. Or very close to it. The only music listed twice appears to be the 20 or so that did show up before. Thanks again Axeman.
