My AppleTV will not get past the set date and time screen

I replaced battery in remote and when I press the menu button appletv LED flashes once. which tells me my remote is working, however no menu comes up and it is stuck on set date and time. I have reset appletv and TV and modem. I am not sure what to do next. Help please!
