FaceTime outage in Oman??

Yess there does seem to be an outage for the last day or so. And since there is no apple stores in oman, we are forced to buy them from UK or USA. And since US iphones do not support the 4G that runs in Oman, we are pretty much restricted to UK iphones. And buying iphones is not illegal in Oman. There are huge electonic chains that sell iphones from the UK. Do u really think that apple wouldnt sue the store if it found out.

Sure skype is blocked in Oman, but viber still works, so this might not be a permanent issue (fingers crossed).

I have been using Facetime to my friends and family in UK for a long time here in oman. Initially I had to use a VPN but then Omantel seemed to have unblocked it and it worked without VPN.

As you say it has stopped working and I have had to resort to TANGO as an alternative through a VPN. I have UK Iphone 5, which I bought in Qurm City Centre from the main Apple reseller.

I sat with Omantel techies yesterday and they assured me it wasn't blocked their side of the communication line and it must be the phone. Once I explined that my Macbook and my Mac had the same issues, they suggested it was the TRA.

The new mobie provider in Oman (Friendi) reports that Facetime works with them. I will buy a sim from them and some credit and report back.

I was at Omantel Head Office and their technicians assured me it was not blocked by them. Their Facebook Page has the same issues and answers.

Since the start of Eid I can no longer face time. I talked to Omantel and they said it is the TRA. However, I cannot find any info on their website . I hope it will be unblocked soon. Just wished I could talk to somebody here in Oman who knows about it !

Yohanson, thanks for posting the email address. I have just sent my email to TRA. I hope more people will do the same. Let's see if I get a reply.

In fact, I am also having the same problem for last more than a week. Its not connecting. Surprisingly on 15th Aug evening I could connect facetime for sometime but again it stopped working. TRA for sure is not a problem, it is either our service provider or something with Apple.
