Hi yohanson, Can you tell which open VPN you are using for facetime ?
Thanks
Hi,
I am also having the same problem as you all. FT seems to have stopped working.
I contacted Omantel, they said "Not Omantel Problem, contact TRA".
I contacted TRA, they said "Not TRA problem, contact Omantel"
I contacted both parties with this information and asked for some additonal help rather than being bounced backwards and forwards, I even sent this furom to them, there unified response was.............Silence!!!
They have not bothered to respond nor show any interest. Usual way, when things get difficult - bury your head in the sand!! 😠
Looks like this problem might be around for a while.
Hi Ozair,
I have downloaded the "OPENVPN" to see if FaceTime would work through an open VPN. Unfortunately this one does not work either.
And, again, unfortunately Chris I think that we will have this for a while ! So frustrating...
Hi Ozair,
Sorry for the late reply. I use HMA VPN, it allows you to choose PPTP or OpenVPN.
You need the OpenVPN app to run it off iPhone or iPad and it is a bit tricky to setup.
Hope that helps, fingers crossed it will be working properly soon.
Using a VPN to give you a different IP address will not give you face time if the phone was bought in the UAE or KAS. the iOS on the phone does not have FaceTime built in and no amount of hiding your IP address with change things. You will not get facetime
Hi Ocean20,
Please note that all of us here in Oman facing this problem HAVE FaceTime on their equipment. We were able to use it before without any problem and now no one in Oman can explain where the problem lies to sort it.
We are not stupid when it comes to our iPad, iPhones, macs etc.
I totally agree. Most people have said their FaceTime has stopped working....there's the clue FaceTime was on the idevice.
The discussion was for solutions not to add problems!
I have just had two days in Bahrain and facetime worked perfectly with and without VPN, so not an apple problem. Still not any wiser on solving here in Oman, but the phone is good ;-)
The Oman authorities are now blocking the HMA config files...the content is deemed to be offensive or fraudulent!
Any other suggestions re an open VPN ?
I have tried the hma pptp but this doesn't work and I have contacted hma to see if they can offer some advice.
Is everyone still facing the same FaceTime issues...??
Hi LJScotland, absolutely. iI am still hoping to find a solution through this forum !
Hi...good to know its not just me! I hope it's fixed soon...FT is my only real link home!! Pls let me know if there are any new solutions/ideas.
Thx
LJ

Then there's really nothing anyone here can do to help you. We can't advise you on ways to break the laws of the country you're in.
LjScotland and all,
All I can say is that the problem must lie with Omantel. I have been bombarding them with emails and also tweets about this issue. I have even posted the link to this forum with Omantel. I would suggest that everyone sends them mails and tweets and keeps doing so until they listen and do something about it. The TRA have confirmed that VoIP services and specifically FT are now allowed in Oman.
Please send emails and tweets to Omantel. Their details are below.
Twitter= @omantel
Email= huthaima.khanjari@omantel.om
The more people keep on at them the more chance we have of getting to someone who knows or is prepared to help.
Good luck and keep us all posted.

Please once again do your research into this. VPN's can't be banned as banks in Oman use them for secure encryption of data between their branches, headoffices.
As I stated it is not illegal to use FaceTime in Oman. There is a problem at the moment that no one seems to be owning up to why FaceTime is not working in Oman. People have spent lots of money on Apple devices to use them to communicate between family and friends which has not been a problem in the past.
This is for solutions not problems...
There is NOTHING that anyone here can do for you. You are using an unsupported carrier in a country where the iPhone is not even officially available for sale. Take it up with your carrier.
