Yellow discoloration How-to get rid off it?

Hello,

since the original thread was closed down without any answer on the subject, here goes: How to get rid of the yellow/grey/orange discoloration a lot of MacBooks are showing? This is a technical issue, so I think there should be no problems with this thread now should there.

OK, another thing: Since the last thread WAS shut down, it certainly seems that someone of Apple is reading these post after all, so maybe any official answers?

Hoping for problem-solving and sincerely,

Martin Stroschein.

Has anyone gotten one of the ShieldZone shields at the same time they got their MacBook? Do they work as well as they claim to?

I'm thinking of getting a 2 GHz MacBook, but all of the staining problems are really scaring me. On the other hand, it's what... 35? ... users so far that have had this problem out of the thousands of MacBooks sold, so the probability of this happening doesn't seem all that large. (Even though quite a few users probably haven't visited these forums).

They work exceedingly well. Even if we didn't have the staining issues, this would be good to have, if anything, to protect against watch band, jewlery scratches.

The kit I ordered included a top cover, which I am not using, a left/right wrist pad protector, track-pad button protector, and track pad cover.

I removed the track pad cover---just too weird feeling.

What else can I say? I have messages posted all over this website about the shieldzone material. All it is is just 3M clear covering material, pre-cut for your computer.

I have no idea what else I can convey. What more information is needed?

It is just a clear covering. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm sorry about the discoloration. I have no idea how to respond to that. I don't have the problem so can't make a response. I have no experience.

But, I do have experience with the shieldzone stuff. It is just clear covering material. That is all there is to it. The website, which I guess you claim is making a salespitch even shows how to apply the material. What else can I give you? Tell me, I'm eager to help.

I am worried about this problem, and I don't even have my MacBook yet, but for you users without stains I may have an idea. What I am going to do is use a regular mouse when I am at my desk at home/starbucks/school. I will use the built in one when it is in my lap. I usually click around, and when I type it is only for a minute or so period, and I take my hands away from the keys istead of resting them on the computer. Maybe if everyone tries this we can prevent stains for a longer period.

Noble effort, but I just can't see being that disciplined for the lifetime of the computer. And I'm not discounting this staining problem---I am very sure I'd be howling the loudest if my computer had the problem.

So, fearing this, I bought the shieldzone stuff and placed it on my stain-free computer.

Furthermore, I read of a message somewhere here of a user drawing a very light line of ink on his white computer, and that the computer soaked up the ink like a blotter. Never could remove the ink.

I did this with a very tiny line on my computer (why, Rymal, you stupid!) but I had no problem and the black ink was rubbed out.

So, I dunno the what or why of this staining.

But, if my computer just came out of the box, the shieldzone product, or equivalent, would be the first thing I would install.

I went to the mac store (Brea, CA) tonight and complained of the yellow discolorations and odd fan noises, and got it replaced no questions asked. He didn't even look at the macbook to see the discolorations, he just gave me a new one. I was so impressed that I used the money i was planning on using to pay restocking fees and invested into the applecare 3 year warranty. I also have some invisibleSHIELD coming in on Friday to put on my new macbook.

...I'm just wondering if the shieldzone
makes the macbook look as if its covered in shrink
wrap or static sticker,or is it fairly
invisible?..just wanted to get an impression from a
user...

More like a hard laminate cover. Glossy. I am recommending everyone get this, if anything, to protect the wrist pads from jewelry and watch band scratches. The yellow stain stuff certainly should be prevented by this, assuming it comes from skin.

Hi, I did get a confirmation email from questions@shieldzone.com - and it has come out of my bank account on 19.06.06 as :

PROTECTIVE SOLUTIONS, INC
US 54.95
XR 1.79869
£30.55

I do not think you can track it as its free postage (on a slow boat)

Still waiting for it at the moment - and using a separate usb mouse and keyboard until it arrives (paranoid!) !

It might be worth e-mailing them to check they have got your order.
