Q: My MacBook Air (2013) won't turn on

This morning I was using it, and it was working fine. I came home this evening, plugged my MacBook into the MagSafe power adapter and went to power it on - and nothing happened. It is responding to the power adapter (ie lights up green initially and the orange) but I cannot get it to respond. At one stage I did hear a brief chime as if it was rebooting, but it cut off again.

I have tried everything I can find online - holding down the power button, holding down power, option and command, etc but nothing is working. I have only owned this laptop for a couple of months and I cannot think of anything that would have damaged it. As I say, it as working this morning.

I am desperate for help as I am currently abroad and not near an Apple Store and my laptop is essential for the work I am doing so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Am in the same situation, everything is dead, no lights chimes etc. Strange as this happened after an SMC update today.

I took my mid 2012 MBAir into the Genius bar and as expexted it was a battery issue. They just had to pop it out and back in again and all was good. So if you have a totally dead Air then be sure to try that. I don't have apple care on this machine but they will do this for free.

So much for the battery that can't be removed but we sacrifice to get our gadgets small right!

I am having the same issue. This happened after the latest system upgrade. I put it to sleep and its dead now. Any solution to this? Probably removing the battery could have some effect but I'm not sure if I will be able to remove it.

    Thanks

Yes take it in and get them to remove it and put it back, it took about 10mins. You probably did the update without being plugged into the power adaptor and that is what caused my problem I think.

Holy smokes. That just happened to me. The Shift+Control+Option+Power SMC reset worked, thank goodness.

What is the cause of this? Very unsettling.

To anyone having this problem that the macbook air 2013 won't start or even give lifesigns exept for the magsafe charger LED!

    I tried reseting SMC.

Keep the lid a little open (thats what i did) and keep it in a firm grip to make sure you hold it.

THEN SHAKE IT LIKE YOU MEAN IT!

    Then press the start button.

    Done.

This will set of the SMS (sudden motion sensor), and in doing so, this solved my problem.

Now everything works like a charm!

    Have a nice day everyone!

    Unbelievable! Shaking it works!

Thank you, Mjoinr4Life for the advice. Saved me a long drive to the Apple Store.

BEST AND SUDDEN advice ever! Respect!) It worked for me. I think something really wrong with MBA 13 2013 with Core i7, because my home mba 13 2013 with Core i5 works great all the time.

It's not because of the i7 processor.
    I have a MacBook Air 2013 i5 8GB RAM 128GB SSD 13" and i obviously had this issue myself.

I don't know how all of you got this problem but i got it when my computer died from lack of battery power when i left it in sleep overnight with about 7% charge left.

I am really glad to see that everyone posting after me solved the problem by following my advice!

Stay awesome people and have a nice day!

Glad it worked for you though.

I know they don't use the SMS system thesame way that the Mac's with HDD drives do. but to me it seems like it's installed and active considering that shaking the computers have worked and not just for me.

As someone else in this thread mentions it worked after he moved it, it seemed like a good idea to try and set of the SMS and see if that worked.
    And obviously it did work.

No logic but hey, it works!
