Whats the deal with AirDrop on iPad2?

AirDrop is available but AirPlay is not on my MacBook Air (2010).

I know that this is because the lack of hardware support for on-the-fly video compression.

But then, why can i use AirPlay perfectly well on my iPad2 (2011), but AirDrop is an unavailable feature in iOS 7??

MacBook Air and iPad 2 both have Wifi a/b/g/n and bluetooth 2.1 + EDR.

If there is no good reason for this inconvenience, how can they get away with making 2 year old hardware obsolete??

if you use ios 7 please remind that ios 7 is not on free access. it's still a beta version and a lot of features will actually not work yet. apple still works on ios 7 and its features.

as i know, on ios 6 there is no airdrop. so you have to use 7.

airdrop will work from an ios device to an ios device at the moment, because there is no update for mac osx that brings the feature to work with an ios device. may on an beta for osx. but with the final version of ios 7, there will be an update for os x so you can use airdrop between ios and osx.
