ppppppppppppppppppppp

Hi, I have a mid 2007 macbook 2.16 GHz. A strange thing has been happening lately. The letter "p" would randomly type itself multiple times "pppppppppppp" while writing an email, typing a web address or during a google search and lately almost any time I try to type, especialy after pressing the return button. I reset safari, emptied cache, ran disk utilities and repaired permissions and ran ClamXav anti Virus (found no infected files). Helped for a while but the darn pppppppppppp started again. Anyone had/have a similiar problem?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8), 2.16 GHz Intel core 2 duo mid 2007

Don't remember dumping any liquids on it lately. It does make sense though if the botton is somehow contaminated. I do live in a high wind area so may be it got contaminated with some dust/sand. Will use some canned air to try and clear the keyboard. To deep clean the keyboard I would have to take it apart, right?

There is another possiblility and that is the battery could be swelling and pressing on the bottom of the keyboard. If you don't think it could be contamination then take it Apple and ask them to check the battery for swelling.

Thank you for the great tips guys. I checked the battery and could not see any swelling nor swellness so I assume it's not the culprit. I live in Tarifa, Spain at the moment and the neareset Apple Store is about 3 hours away! Thomas, per your reasoning, I took the "p" key out and apart, cleaned and moved everything as much as I could and put it back together. As of around 10 am I haven't had any problems!! Keeping my fingers crossed. Will report back in a few days!!

Actually I did not check any of the above. I followed Allan's suggestion that the battery might be physically pressing on a key button and checked it for swellness/ uneveness but found none.

It's beem almost a week since I took apart the "p" key. Haven't had an issue since. I think taking the key apart and cleaning it solve the problem. Thank you all for your help and advice. Much appreciated!

I have seen the repeating keys trick after the keyboard was fed too much orange juice or coffee with cream and sugar.

If the keyboard has been contaminated with anything sticky that can do it.

There could be multiple reasons for a key to stick like that, almost all hardware-related. None of them are related to malware. You should get the machine checked by Apple ASAP.
