How do I disable messenger on my MacBook air?

I am guessing "messenger" means the Messages application.
To disable it, open it, then go to Preferences (under Messages in the menu bar). Choose the "Accounts" tab and uncheck all the "Enable this account" boxes next to the accounts listed.
