How do i get rid of a iPhone Virus?

I have now for the second time a strange virus on my Iphone 5, iOs 6.1.4 It opens randomly the pre-installed apple apps like Newsstand, Settings, Notes etc. and changes settings there. The first time I had it, it sent a message with "awkward" to one of my contacts. This time it changed my wallpaper. I haven't jailbreaked my iPhone. How do I get rid of this ****? It seems to help to switch the Wifi off. A reset of the settings did work the first time but not now. Thanks for your help!

Yesterday I opened up my gmail account and had several returned emails. Strange because I had not sent them. Immediately changed my passwords and other security in Google. I use very strong passwords so I was a little surprised that I had been hacked. I opened one of these emails from my IPhone 4s and clicked a link then closed it. I notified friends on FB not to open the email from me (I have way too many gmail contacts). Today I opened Safari and on at least every other webpage in greeted with an ad "You've won a prize!" And when you read fine print they are phishing for CC info. I'm going to do a reset on my phone, but this guys claim about an email being sent with "awkward" is VERY similar to the emails sent from my gmail account. I have no idea how or if my IPhone is part of this mess but wanted to get opinions from Apple people. Thank you. James

Start your own thread rather than tacking your post onto an old somewhat contentious thread. You'll get more help.

No, you don't have a virus.

This is an old post, but people still come here thinking they have a virus. We've all been told that an iPhone cannot get a virus. Wrong!

You think you have a virus and it is highly unlikely but not impossible. Usually, if you simply clear the temporary Internet files, things will start working again. I just fixed a 5S by doing this. The problem was that a web page asking the user to call a 1-800 number came up over and over and over and it refreshes every second or so and the user cannot use Safari (hmmm. Sounds like a virus doesn't it?). BTW - This is the same virus that is causing issues with PC's recently since is has the same 1-800 number as the PC virus (Noooo! It can't be a virus they say), it does make one wonder though. Again, I solved this minor problem by clearing Safari's temp internet folder.

Just Food for the Cranium. 😕 😼 but still 🙂

What you're describing is still NOT a virus. It's a compromised website.

Sounds like it BUT it is NOT. It is a script that may have been downloaded to Safari cache and it gets executed over and over again until you clear the scripts. Viruses are not that easy to get rid of. They stick to the system and requires system restore to remove permanently. I agree with you all internet connected devices including Apple devices can be infected but that is NOT a virus.

Another way of getting this problem is breaking into your wireless router (thru remote management). Instead of using DNS that belongs to your internet provider, the router uses bad guys DNS IP addresses. All internet traffic gets redirected to their web servers that serve malicious ads/scripts.

Have you tried using a totally different USB Cable and Apple charger? A defective cord or charger unit can cause the kinds of things you are seeing, and if you used the same one with both devices, that would explain how they both have the same symptoms.

Also, if you wiped your device and set up as new, then how would you still have a "virus"? The only thing running at that point would have been the iOS.

Good luck with avoiding viruses on a Samsung....
