ipod touch doing nothing

my ipod touch 5 is doing nothing but show a usb lead and the itunes icon on the screen. It ran out of battery a few days ago after my charge cable stopped working, but luckily i bought a cheap one the internet for a back up, after one it stopped working. When i plugged my ipod into my car charger it then came up with itunes icon and usb cable but now its doing nothing!! even when i plug the ipod into my laptop itunes doesnt even recognise it, cant even restore it. Any help would be brilliant thanks

Try:

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

- Try on another computer

- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
