Profile Manager Error 500 on client enrollment

Open Directory service is handling and creating certificates. That's one reason why it's sometimes needed for other services even if the user directory isn't used.

I deleted the .local and self-signed certificates, then reconfigured Profile Manager to use the correct code signing certificate. That fixed it for me.

I guess you have sorted your issue now. But for those Google searches this may solve your issue: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202523 - I have had to set up all profiles again :-(

Have you made sure that you have ticked Allow Apple Push Notifications in Server.app --> Overview --> Settings?, If you don't tick this, you will result in getting a 500 internal error

I had this problem after an unknown problem caused a restart.

I was able to fix it by ...

1. Turn off Profile Manager Service

2. Turn off website service

3. Turn off Open Directory Service

4. Turn on Open Directory Service

5. Turn on website service

6. Turn on Profile Manager Service

Once the services where started again it was working without a problem.

will this break anything?

I use OD piggybacked on to AD (AD does authentication and file storage and DNS)

My profile manager keeps saying "reload page" when browsing it and I've tried a million things to fix it. I've not been brave enough to turn off and on open directory yet.

This image scares me a bit... 🙂

I do not get that warning, did you stop the Profile Manager Service first? Make sure you stop each service in the right order.

1. Turn off Profile Manager Service

2. Turn off website service

3. Turn off Open Directory Service

the message I get when turning off OD is ...

... I click OK and then start the services back up in the following order

4. Turn on Open Directory Service

5. Turn on website service

6. Turn on Profile Manager Service

thanks for that - you where correct, I have now done the above in the correct order but unfortunately my profile manager is still throwing wobblers with the "reload page" error message.

Have a look through this article, it has some things you can try, maybe start with turning on verbose logging if you haven't already, your logs should give some hints as to what's going on.

already got verbose logging on and had a gander at that link. Im not sure if the error is Apache, Postgress or something in the PM database - think i'll have some strong coffees and have a day or 2 of looking at logs!

Any luck on this? I have having the same issue. Error 500 on enrollment. I have done my best to investigate Apache but don't find it to be the issue. I have over 1000 devices and don't exactly want to rebuild in order to enroll a few more...

In El Capitan, seeing same issue. Followed guidance, all rebuilt, lost all settings, users, push certs (no big deal in this case), and still 500 error. Unfortunately because this server is in a colocation facility, rebuilding it from installers to get past this is painful and expensive. These defects really need to be worked out by QA before the product goes out.

Did not work, El Capitan 10.11.4, Server 5.1
