when starting iMovie I gt an error that there are missing quicktime components.
I searched on internet and removed some files in library, restarted mac but no improvements so far.
I contacted already support but they did not help. Very frustrating thing and I start to regret the purchase of this iMac due to luck of support !!!
Can anybody help on this please?

basically, I think I need to reinstall Quick Time. But this is not possible, as it is included into the system. I am not even able to delete quicktime.
What Mac is this, with what version of OS X?

got an iMAC 3.4 GHz, OS X 10.8.4
I tried some more thinks and followed some instructions on forums (including Pacifist - reinstall etc.) No solution. Now I do not have the app Quicktime anymore on the system but cannot install it.
Any help on this would very much be appreciated.Thanks
Quicktime is an essential part of the operating system and should never be deleted.
You need to restore your operating system.
There must be another way. It is only the app file that was removed - the rest ist still there.
If I get the app file - fine.
But this will still not resolve the main issue: cannot use iMovie. And beside updates I made no changes to the system before. Any idea?
I discovered the the QuickTime Player file ist still there. but I cannot launch it

'Quicktime' is a player app, which can get deleted - but shouldn't - without effecting iMovie

'Quicktime' is a System-wide 'architecture', handling all sorts of media (stills, audio, video) - your error message complains abot THAT; and Klaus is right: you need a re-install of the MacOS.
Insert installer-disks, click install, done.
as long as you don't erase the drive, all documents are kept untouched.

got you. But I have no disc / DVD: the system arrived preinstalled and I had nothing to do.
Something I am of course really worried about, is my data. Do not want anything to be deleted.

usually, a missing component indicates some 'buggering around' with OS files&folders. Don't do it 😉

You can also create an external recovery disk. For more information, see this Apple Support article:

Control Panel > Device Manager > Network Adapters > Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter (right click and choose "Properties".
Under the "Advanced" tab, highlight the setting named "Bluetooth Collaboration", then change it to Enable. Then click OK.
