"Add to" not copying music to my iPad

I recently restored my iPad so that I could re-create my music selection - couldn't figure out how to do it otherwise.

Now iTunes sees my iPad and I can select "Add To" but when I drag over a song/album/playlist, nothing happens. I see in the Tutorial what is supposed to happen, but the files are not
