I have the 13-inch mid 2010, it wont accept 8GB because it wont auto down clock. how can i fix this, or do i have to reflash memory?

no, my current is 6GB 1x2GB & 1x4GB. The max supported for this logic board is 8GB, is what it says. I cannot add another four (4GB), cause firmware doesn't support I guess, something to do with clock speeds. when I attempt to run another 4GB (2x4GB 1066 DDR3) OS will not start, freezes on spinning wheel.
Where did you get the RAM? What brand is it?
My experience has been that you get better performance if you match the RAM in both slots, e.g. 2 x 4 GB.
And, I'd recommend getting the RAM from one of the two most recommended RAM vendors here: OWC (macsales.com) or Crucial, as Macs are somewhat finicky about their RAM.

So I can run 16GB? Why the Eff cant I run 8GB RAM (4GBx2)? Anyone walk me through it? All I've really found out is that I'd have to reflash one 4GB RAM to Run at 533MHZ so combined it dont go over the 1067 It's rated at. RAM is combatible with both DDR-3 1333 & 1066... Why can't Mac run 2x4GB DDR3 SO-DIMM, 204-pin?
Most likely it is the dual speed (1333mHz/1066mHz) issue. Macs are quite fussy about RAM specs and require the correct spec RAM. 1333mHz RAM is not correct spec.
So It won't auto-downclock to 1066? There's got to be a way around it.. besides, ordering new RAM..
Im running 6GB, but it's a 2GB & 4GB and from my understanding mismatch--you dont get peak perfromance.
It is best to stick with the factory specifications on Macs. I'd return what you bought and order from one of two recommended sources as mentioned above. I'd go with 2 x 4 GB of factory specs or 2 x 8 GB (not different specs, but a matched pair).
From reports on here, nope there is no way to change the speed. You will need the correct spec RAM. As a side note: This RAM wouldn't be PNY brand would it? They seem to have issues with Mac RAM. The site below is highly recommended among forum users.

If you're running apps that need the memory you will get better performance with 6gb over 4gb every time regardless of the configuration.

Matched is best; but, 1 x 2 + 1 x 4 is better than 2 x 2 and 2 x 4 GB is better than 1 x 2 + 1 x 4.
