audio out/in interface problem

When I plug from a Casio keyboard output to the audio input/output jack with a male to male mini chord it detects the device not as an audio source, but as headphones. Is there way to override the system so that it accepts the audio input?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

The instructions Caggiano posted do not correspond to my experience.

I was definitely in system preferences, sound, and there was no option for a manual override.

As I said, I did notice that it was detecting the input as headphones.

My MBP is indeed newer, so I am guessing that what Ogelthorpe says about the new system is correct.

Is there a mini to usb converter?

I must say I am surprised that Apple would decide to cut mini audio-in on newer computers.

What gives?

You'll need something liike iMic - USB Audio Interface - Griffin Technology to connect via USB.

It would be a good thing for you to update your profile, it still shows you as using 10.5.6. and is what confused OGELTHORPE in his first reply Also it will help you can better answers here when you ask a question if you include all the information in the first post. That is OS version, system type and date, etc.

good luck
