Home Sharing issues since iTunes 11.0.5, unable to play movie/tv content it just hangs on the spinning sprocket

Every since my upgrade to iTunes 11.0.5, I have had problems with my AppleTV homesharing with iTunes. The media, (Movies, TV Shows, etc) hangs on that spinning sprocket/gear wheel or show's the first frame of the movie and never loads or plays. I have to continually restart the AppleTV or iTunes, sometimes even restarting my iMac or the Network Router.

Does anyone have a work around or solution to this issues, it is making me mental having to restart after each screening.

Thanks....

Thanks for the info Matt, but I have tried them all to no avail. I can get the AppleTV to play a movie, but if I want to watch another, or a TV program I get that spinning sprocket or first frame and media does not load. I have to go through the process of restarting (AppleTV & iTunes), rebooting (iMac & Network Router) before I can get other content to play. Basically, the problem still exists (persists).

Thanks again....

I'm having issues playing back movies and songs via home sharing on a 2010 Mac Mini with ITunes 11.0.5! Already went through the home sharing troubleshooting and still having movie lockups after a couple minutes! Movies and music playback is just fine on the IMac where the files reside. Guess it's an ITunes problem that will need an update to correct. Sigh.......

Never had an issue with the movies being lost, just the inconvenience of them not being able to play via the AppleTV without hanging up/stalling completely. I keep all my media (movies, music, TV shows) on external hard drive, just in case and iTunes pointed to that drive.

Guess we all have to wait 'n see if/when iTunes gets an update/fix for this issue.

My airplay only works from my iphone to my appletv (version 5.3). My itunes (version 11.0.5.5) can see the appletv as the airplay icon appears in itunes. but when i try to play music through appletv it says it has connection issue or it has timed out. Also if i try to connect to my itunes library from my appletv i get another error about connections.

I have noticed that for example : if my iphone is currently playing music through appletv and i try to play music from my itunes library to the appletv...when i press play with airplay switched on (icon turns blue) it actually turns off my music playing from my iphone. It as if itunes is attempting to connect but is unable to do so.

This all began when appletv was updated!! Im in Australia! APPLE SORT IT OUT!!!!!!!

Am i not the only one having this problem?!?!?!?

I too have movies stalling on Apple TV since upgrading to itunes 11.0.5.5. The apple TVs can access the itunes store but playback from the computer library sometimes starts and stalls shortly after or else I get file format is not understood errors and it wont play anything at all. Usually this also results in itunes locking up the computer and requiring a hard restart. The movies play fine on the computer and played fine on the apple TVs until I upgraded to 11.0.5.5. My apple TVs are using software version 3 and are up to date for those models.

I have the same problem with playing itunes music streaming on aTV. It will play one song, go to the next one and then just hang there. I have called numerous times and to no avail. I don't have interference issues as i just purchased the new aTV after getting rid of the older version which had no issues whatsoever. It always played the itunes library with no issue. Any other suggestions...?

Finally, my video playback is fixed!!!! My issues were very similar to this thread. I could see my videos on my home share from the apple tv. I could attempt to start playing them but then nothing but the good old spinning sprocket.

Here is what worked for me... I'm not sure which specific step was the most critical.. my guess is the second step.

1. I completely reset the AppleTV.

2. I changed a setting on my wireless router. Switched from a mixed WPA/WPA2 mode to a WPA2 only mode.

After that, my faimly was enjoying the whole video library again.

Good luck to everyone out there. Hope this helps!
