Raw Update 4.08 removes distortion correction for Sony RX100 files?

I loaded raw update 4.08 on my 27 inch iMac yesterday. A while later, I opened Aperture 3 to export some RX100 files from a family event last week to Smugmug. To my horror, as the photos loaded when I viewed them, the automatically applied lens distortion correction was removed and obviously it was worst with the wide ones. The issue also shows up in iPhoto, so it seems a general OS thing. To confirm it was indeed due to the raw update, I exported the same raw files to my MacBook Air, which I hadn't updated yet. Sure enough, Aperture loaded them with distortion correction just fine. Obviously, I won't be updating the MacBook until this issue is fixed.

Yeah, well that's exactly what I and others on the thread have done. Publicizing the issue perhaps lights a little fire, no? And the downgrade to 4.07 method presented in the thread is useful to those with this camera, is it not?

I use Aperture 3.4.5, OS 10.8.4. I just downloaded the recent update 4.08 for camera raw files for the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II. Now when I open any of the pictures taken by that camera a spherical fisheye distortion is introduced to each picture. I cannot remove by reverting to original. No other pictures taken by any other camera has the distortion introduced.

The solution posted by alexis117 worked perfectly. All the pictures were back to normal when I restarted Aperture. Thank you!! The 4.08 camera raw update is completely unacceptable for the Sony cybershot DSC RX100 camera.

If downgrading to 4.07 is not an option for you, as mentionned earlier by Kirby Krieger another solution is to use "Sony® Image Data Converter (version 4.2.02)". Download it for free from:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/swu-download.pl?mdl=DSCRX100&upd_id=8263&os_group_ id=3

Then use it to develop the RAW pictures to JPG or TIFF files, that you then import into Aperture.

Fantastic! Thanks for the solution, downgraded my RAW functionality here and everything went right back to normal...a lifesaver. RX100 users rejoice!

Thank you so much for this post. Having just returned from Bolgna and Venice with 500+ shots on my RX100 I was dismayed when working through them in iPhoto to find some where horribly fish-eyed. My first thought was that there was a problem with the camera.

Regarding the alexis117's OP the going back to 4.0.7 solved the problem for me and for anyone else interested, here is the link for the 4.0.7 upgrade

I'm happy to announce that we can all upgrade to Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 4.09 released today via Apple Software Update, which "Restores lens correction to Sony Cyber-shot DSC RX100 images"!

Thanks for posting. Just checked and your're right, it's back. I followed the solution above by alexis117 and downgraded to 5.01 and everthing is back to normal. I guess this will finally teach me not to have auto-updates on!
