Mac app store won't update or download ANYTHING

I've been a Mac app store user for years now, ever since I got snow leopard a few years ago. Everything worked fined until I heard about the new "Bad Piggies" game update which included a new world. I went to updates, found it, and clicked "update." It cued for my Apple ID password and I typed it in correctly. Then the apple loading symbol came at the corner of the app store browser, and... nothing happens. It keeps spinning and nothing updates. As I poked around more in the store, I couldn't update any other app's or download ANYTHING from the Mac app store. It just did the loading symbol:

Is there any solution to this? I did the trick where in Spotlight you add and then remove Macintosh HD from the "Privacy" Tab. No luck with that.

I have a late 2006 iMac

With two user accounts

And with recently upgraded RAM

(Are my specifications even relevant??!!!)

Any Suggestions?

That's unfortunate because having another account to test with helps.

Reason being, if you have the same problems in both user acocunts, it's can be an indication that the startup disk needs repairing.

You should do this on a timely bases regardless.

Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utillities

Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.

Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)

If DU reports errors, start up your Mac install disc to make repairs and restore 10.6.

The spotlight trick just reindexes your volume. This wouldn't be the cuse of your problem.

I can't see the screenshot, but first try the following:

Open Terminal Application. Copy and paste the following command into the command line prompt:

defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -boot true ; killall AppStore ; exit

Open the App Store Back up. Sign out of it (Store > Sign out). From the Debug Menu, choose both "Clear cookies" and "reset application"

Next,

Open Finder, from the menu bar Go.. > Go to Folder...

copy and paste the following path: ~/Library/Preferences/

Delete the following two items:

com.apple.appstore.plist

com.apple.installer.plist

Reboot your machine and see if the problem persists.

Good that it's isolated to one account ...

Try deleting the cache associated with the App Store.

Quit the App Store if it's open.

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder

Type or copy paste the following:

~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/Cache.db

Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.

Relaunch the App Store to test.
