My iPhone 4S has no sound for text messages or music, but does ring so I don't think it can be the speaker? Checked settings and all seems ok. When I try to select the different tones for the text is just vibrates and doesn't make the sound? Any ideas?

I noticed today that I hear no sound when I receive a text message. I've checked the settings and all ok. When I tried to select a different text tone I could only feel vibrations. Further investigations, I have found the same happens to receiving emails, and I have no sound when trying to play my music. However, I do get sound when I receive a call, so it can't be the speaker, I also hear my music when I have it on my Bose dock. Any ideas?

There are two places where vibrations can be set.

One is the Settings > Sounds

The other area is Settings > Notifications

If you have an app set to Alert, it may have a vibration set for it.

Today my iPhone 4S started to make this crackling sound while I was watching YouTube videos then the sound stopped working. Later on the sound buttons wouldn't work and my music wouldn't play either so I reset my phone and it fixed it and the sound was normal again but then after a while I lost the sound. I then blew into the charger port and it fixed it but yet again I lost the sound so I kept doing this but now it won't work at all, is there any other ways to fix it? I have tried cleaning it out with a needle but still that didn't work.

So I went on here looking for my current dilema having to do with my ringer and texting not making a sound...it was hit or miss. Then I read your reply and looked over at my phone and sure enough the "little moon" was visible and I knew you had "fixed" my problem. I remember I turned it on days ago because I didn't want to be woken up and then I completely forgot about it. Thanks so much. I may not help the original person who posted the question, but you made my day!😉🙂

Me: iPhone 4s running iOS7.1.

I tried the Youtube video/plug wiggle trick posted earlier. That didn't work. I haven't even noticed that I was missing Youtube audio.

Anyway, I noticed that the little blue triangle box in the lower right corner was enabled for audio output destination switching. That is usually not enabled unless you are hooked up to something like bluetooth, a boombox, etc., and I was not.

I clikced it, and it had 'Bluetooth Audio' selected, even though I was not hooked up to a bluetoooth device. I switched it back to speaker, and that fixed the Youtube audio, but more importantly, it fixed the text notification sounds! I guess the setting got stuck.

Hey, Apple! Bug fix needed, here!

I listen to a lot of iHeartRadio through my work day on the phone (and thank goodness for unlimited data plans!) and I often get this bug where the app thinks it's playing audio, but nothing comes out of the my car's dock connector, or headphone jack if I hook up that way. No bluetooth attached here. So, I tried pulling the dock connector out and back in, same with headphone line audio, nothing fixes this except turning the phone off and back on. I don't get the blue triangle box icon, so I can't switch it there. Naturally, the iHeartRadio says they have never heard of this issue, but we always hear that from first tier tech support. I'm wondering if it's an iPhone bug, but can't confirm it.

The text alert on my iPhone 5s sometimes does not sound. I believe the problem started after I updated to the latest version of seven. Usually after I set and reset some different things at random, and turn the phone off and turn the phone back on, it may begin to work again. I believe some alert sounds are silenced when I am talking on the phone or performing some other functions on this device. Today I decided to LOCK the sounds. Maybe this will solve the problem. It's interesting that the most expensive phone on the market has the most problems.

i solved this problem.it is so easy.

s go to setting/sound and eanable change with buttons in ringer and alert section.

then press home butten.

while you are pushing either + or - (volume buttons)
open music app.then press play.tadaaaaaa 😀

it is that simple and worked for me.

i tried the video trick and also deleting the sound cloud app.

none of them worked

enjoy this trick
