My iPhone 4S has no sound for text messages or music, but does ring so I don't think it can be the speaker? Checked settings and all seems ok. When I try to select the different tones for the text is just vibrates and doesn't make the sound? Any ideas?

In case this helps anyone... I just solved the issue on my iPhone 4S

First, swipe up and check to be sure Do Not Distrub is OFF. Then check Airplay settings. Like with me, you'll likely see that it's stuck on being able to choose Apple TV (if you have one), another speaker OR ... in my case, "Dock Connector".

It was stuck on "Dock Connector". The only way I was able to change that was to connect an Apple AV Cable. It's the cable with HDMI and USB charging on it. I tried connecting to a dock, (over and over), tried connecting to a power plug, and nothing worked. I connected to the AV Cable, disconnected it and BAM!! The Airplay option to choose "iphone" just popped back in there.

Oh, I also tried various other things like cleaning the dock connector plug and using a headphone plug to clean it out. Those didn't work.

By the way, so you know... I went to airplay again 10min later, and it switched back to "Dock Connector", so LEAVE AIRPLAY ALONE to keep getting notification and keyboard sounds. I don't know what the issue is with "Dock Connector", but hey.. here's a fix for some people..

If the thingy next to the sound buttons is red , then that silences the sounds. Just turn off the red!

I sorted mine by cleaning the charging port on the phone. Used clean dry toothbrush plus a friend had some surgical wipes. Good luck

Thanks for the info..just got same problem with my 5s..i clean the headphone and charging port with cotton bud..wala..the problem solved

HAd same problem, phone would ring but no text tone alerts and couldn't hear youtube playing. Figured out bluetooth was on and still connected to some ear phones across the room! Turned off bluetooth and now everythings ok.

Do you have to use the YouTube app for it to work?

ive been trying this for hours still nothing do i just get another phone or what carnt see how this works pluging and wrigling charger port around this is realy annoying me how does this happen
