I am looking to hook up my laptop to my computer and my computer has a mini DVI. What cords do I need?

Most computers only have output, not input. Is your MacBook's screen is dead and you want to view its contents on an external display? Or are you just trying to transfer data from the MacBook to another machine? And what is the other machine?
I am trying to hook it up so I can play movies through it.
Again you have failed to answer the question of what the other machine is?
A laptop (MacBook) which has a mini dvi to a television (Panasonic) which has an HDMI
Since the mini-DVI does not carry audio, you'll need to find something that can combine the Mac's audio and video signals into an HDMI signal like this set of boxes.
