How does Walmart Family Mobile affect AT

My husband and I just unlocked our (AT&T) iPhones and were planning on signing up for the Walmart Family Mobile plan. Then I realized my whole family is still on AT&T and I spend the majority of my minutes/data talking/texting them.

So my mom pointed out, how will this affect them? They also have iphones, but as we've used family/friends AT&T plan for years, does anyone know if THEY will get charged for minutes or texts, pictures etc.? They have the most basic data and text plans and something like 500 minutes.

Because we all have iPhones and can use imessage for most things, does anyone know if this would affect them? I wouldn't want them to get charged for calls or incoming texts/pics just because we switched.

FYI, they're considering switching to WFM too, but they still have several months before they can unlock.

They don't... I'm just asking if iphones always use imessage, which doesn't charge you or even use carriers at all as far as I know? I asked here because it's basically an iPhone/Apple question about how iMessage works.

Geez sorry for asking... I can ask Walmart/AT&T, though since it's two different carriers I wasn't sure if I'd get good information. Ha and I didn't really want to call AT&T and ask about a different carrier, figured they'd just try to get me to keep their service...

No. iMessage requires an iDevice with iMessage activated on both ends of the messaging stream and if either one of them is without a data connection, or there is an issue or problem with the data connection or Apple's servers, the message will be sent via SMS/MMS.
