HP 6110 AIO is not showing up as having a scan facility

I have been gifted an HP6110 AIO printer. The LCD on the printer shows a scanner failure.

The printer window doesn't show that the machine has a scan feature:

Here's the image I get with another 4 in one HP machine which has all the same features:

When I click on scan on the 3300, I get the instruction to 'open scanner'. No problem.

Can there be any correlation between printer and computer for the scan feature not to show because of the scanner failure?
