Using iphone, music downloads at 128 kbps

If I use my iphone 4 to dowload music by selecting itunes App > purchased on account > choosing an album to download, it downloads at 128 kbps. If I use iTunes on my Windows computer, it downloads at 256kbps as normal.

1) I am not referring to syncing. All music on my computer is 256kbps, was purchased at 256kbps, and I never want to see 128kbps ever.

2) On my computer, Convert higher bit rate songs to 128kbps is NOT CHECKED. I have not found a setting like this on my iphone.

3) I know how to sync using my computer and I am an advanced computer user. I have manual sync enabled and drag albums onto my iphone.

4) I have no idea how to check the bitrate using the iphone. I noticed it when I plugged it into my computer and saw the music listed. I have bitrate as a column.

Thanks!

iPhone 4, iOS 6.1.4

You keep stating the obvious that has nothing to do with my post. Please read my posts before replying. If you do not know the answer, do not post anything because now no one with possible real information will post since they think you helped.

When I download my iTunes store purchased 256kbps music USING MY IPHONE, it only downloads at 128kbps. I CAN DOWNLOAD MY purchased 256KBPS music using my computer. I am able to download music using my computer, and sync it to my iphone with no issues. The ISSUES ARISE IF I TRY TO USE MY IPHONE TO DOWNLOAD FROM MY ACCOUNT. There are ONLY two possibilities here:

1) There is a bug in the system, an APPLE issue, that causes it to download at 128kbps

2) There is a setting within the iphone that causes it to covert all tracks to 128kbps, which I cannot find if it exists. This setting is on my Windows iTunes, but it is unchecked. So if anyone knows of a setting like this on the iphone please let me know where it is.

Props to you, just downloaded a song myself from iTunes directly to my iPhone and it showed up at 128kbps. Downloaded to my MBP at 256, synced it to the phone and it is now 256.

Go here to tell Apple about it: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

I would imagine it was put into place to save bandwidth but I can find nothing that mentions it.

Thank you SO MUCH for testing it out. I know it is something on Apple's end. Most people do not even know how to add the bit rate column, so they do not realize that they are listening to LOWER QUALITY music. I do not even know why anyone would want the music at 128kbps.

128kbps music does save space on an iPhone, but it should be the choice of the user if they want more music or better sounding music. I have looked everywhere to try to find this choice, but it looks like APPLE is making decisions for us...unless it will be introduced with iOS 7.

No, as I said in my addendum, I watched the file being downloaded and it showed 7.4MB downloaded, which is the same size as the 256kbps version downloaded to my MBP. On the iPhone I looked at bitrate and file size. It showed 128kbps and 6.6MB. When I synced the one from the MBP this changed to 256Kbps and 7.4MB. It is being transcoded.

Try it.

I'm thinking this has to be a bug in the way iTunes is reporting the bit size of the music on the device. I have an iPad here in which I downloaded all the music that I have purchased in iTunes. Only the music videos show as 256Kbps.

The songs, show as 128Kbps but the file sizes are the exact same size as the 256Kbps size files on my actual computer. I don't think the music on my iPad is actually 128Kbps or the file sizes would be half the size.
