unable to empty trash TunnelBlick in use

Hi there.. first time mac user here... installed an app "TunnelBlick" which is a vpn client then deleted it ( moved to trash). but now it is stuck over there. whenver i try to empty the trash, it says- The operation can’t be completed because the item “Tunnelblick” is in use. In addittion to these, there is a folder which is the package content of TunnelBlick.app from the previous installation it is also not getting deleted .

i tried appdelete, trash it and force empty from terminal but nothing worked..

Correction: the copy of Tunnelblick that noamkfir uninstalled could have been from an official Tunnelblick build. "andym" is the creator of the Sparkle Framework, and early versions of Tunnelblick used the framework as built by him.

But it still was a very, very old version of Tunnelblick.

I experimented with different VPNs and one of them (I can't remember which) required Tunnelblick. This was a couple years ago. When I uninstalled that VPN shortly thereafter, I neglected to remove Tunnelblick as well. I didn't get around to cleaning it up until now.

So it was official, and old, and difficult to remove. I saw a ton of posts about different ways to remove Tunnelblick, but most made no sense to me (e.g., reinstall the universe) or didn't work. It was extremely frustrating and I'll never go near anything that relies on Tunnelblick again. On the plus side, I learned a lot 🙂.
