Irremovable spots on screen retina macbook 15''

Hello,

A couple of days ago I noticed a splash-like blotch on the screen of my laptop. I have since tried almost everything suggested online to remove said spots (microfiber cloth wiping, water, alcohol, vinegar solution, special screen cleaning solution), but they do not appear to go away or diminish in size.

I can feel a slight change in texture sliding over each spot with my fingernail, but cant tell whether its some sort of coating that has come off, or whether its something physically on the screen. I was wondering if anyone could help me identify what's on my screen and recommend how i can potentially remove it.

The link below has some pictures of what i'm talking about. On close inspection it seems that there is a tiny white spot in the center of each splash mark. I do not recall having splashed anything on my screen, and have no idea what it could have been.

I look forward to hearing your input and suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Martin,

I didn't end up finding a solution to my problem, ended up taking my mbp to the apple store and they replaced my screen for me. My warranty had recently expired but they made an exception and took it as a production issue from a previous screen replacement I had (ghosting issues). They mentioned not having seen any similar cases before, and couldn't tell me what it was that was on my screen. I recommend going to the apple store anyway to see if anything can be done, probably your best bet if your issue is the same as mine.

Sorry I cant offer any quick solution.

I have a macbook pro 15" mid 2012 retina and my screen is getting worse by the month. Looks the same as Fz9 is experiencing. Attached is how mine looks today. All the streaks are making it hard to use when I have any light reflection going on. I use it 10 hours a day for work and its becoming an issue.

This is my second very highend macbook pro and I've treated it no differently than my first one that I used for 3 years with no problems. Since I paid close to $4000 for this laptop and its only 2 years old I expected that Apple would recognize that this is some kind of manufacturing defect and fix this problem.

I just drove 3 hours from my home to an Apple store in Portland and they told me it wasn't a problem they were going to fix. The "Genius" said he had never seen that problem before and Apple has never done a recall on that issue.

Turns out, according to the "Genius", that it doesn't matter to Apple how much I spent on the laptop or how long it should reasonable work. They did offer to do an onsite repair for $600. Why would I invest another $600 in a product that didn't even last 2 years?

At this point I'm considering going back to Windows for my next laptop. What's the point of spending twice as much for Apple hardware if I can't expect it to last and Apple doesn't care.

Anyone have any advice on how I should proceed?

An update on my problem. I called the Apple Support hotline (non-technical, so it was free) and made my way up the chain of command until I found an empathetic ear of a manager. The manager recognized that this was clearly a manufacturing problem and granted an exception. I'll be taking the computer to a local repair shop and getting the monitor swapped out. I learned a good bit more about Apple Care too in this process and have decided to purchase it next time I get a new laptop. Apple has made me feel again that I can trust them to take care of me when I need them.
