multiple pages in back/forward history?

Using Safari 6.0.5, for the last few days I have found that on SOME websites navigating around appears to insert more than one instance of a page in the back/forward history. It is then necessary to click the Back button (or swipe) more than once in order to return to the previous page, and the Forward button is then greyed out.

An example is the BBC News site: going from www.bbc.co.uk/news to the business page, to the market data page, then using the back button to return to the business page, finally re-entering the market data page results in the following list under the Back button -

BBC NEWS | Business | Market Data | Overview

BBC News - Business

BBC News - Business

BBC News - Business

BBC News - Home

BBC News - Home

Many sites seem unaffected.

Anyone else noticed this?

Neither am I!! After I went to all the bother of taking my laptop to a local shopping centre and verified, yeah, we still get the problem via a different connection. Hey ho!

And I'm noticing a couple of subtle differences in Safari behaviour - like when I just now signed in from this page, I was returned to it duly signed in. Yesterday I got signed in OK, but I was bounced out to the top Community page (https://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa) and had to hunt for this thread - I had a suspicion that I was seeing the multiple page problem on these discussion pages, but I wasn't sure. And the Radio Times website today (in addition to the back button now working as expected) is giving me my own selection of channels, a function which involves cookies and Javascript - yesterday it was getting the channels wrong. These may not be related to the problem we were seeing, but perhaps...?

So, a little frustrating. If nobody's going to stick up their hand and say they found the source of the problem, we don't know who to congratulate for fixing it or tick the "This solved my question" box for them! I guess if it was Google we congratulate Robert for reporting the problem to them!

But, hey, problem gone away! 🙂

Just a small thread for this "big" problem. It was very annoying to have very frequent blank pages when swiping back at a lot of websites.

I too suspect Google for this behaviour, but I have no prove for that. It is weird that I had no software change and suddenly these blank pages appeared the last couple of days, and now they are gone. More people should have noticed it.

So if someone has an explanation that I can understand?
