I purchased a new Macbook Pro (15") with a 2.3Ghz i7 processor and 4GB RAM. The Mac came installed with OS X 10.7 (I guess). Everything was working perfectly. I recently upgraded to OS 10.8.4 and since then my mac has slowed down and I get beachballs (rainbow colored) every time I try to use it for something. The booting time and shut down time have stayed the same.

I ran an EtreCheck on my mac and the log shows as follows:

What's wrong is that you installed CleanMyMac.

Get rid of it according to the product's instructions. Whatever system file corruption or similar damage it created may require additional assistance to resolve.

  • 2. Re: New Macbook Pro has slowed down recently
    nbar Level 5 Level 5 (6,945 points)

    1) Get rid of CleanmyMac. It only makes your Mac slow and dirty. REMOVE IT.

    2) Blackberry software

    com.rim.driver.BlackBerryUSBDriverInt          (0.0.64)

              [loaded] com.rim.BBAlbumArtCacher.plist

              [loaded] com.rim.BBLaunchAgent.plist

              [loaded] com.rim.BBDaemon.plist

This is one possible reason. The BB desktop manager, or whatever software it is, has been known to produce a 'runaway process' and causes constant high disk activity on Macs.

Back up all data immediately as your boot drive may be failing.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'Channel t|GPU D|I/O|Previous Sh' | tail | open -ef

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).

Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.

Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).

The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.

A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.

I ran a disk check at boot using command + R  and the results showed that the disk seems to be ok. I re-installed my OS X 10.8.4 and the deleted Clean My Mac and BB Desktop Software. Now my mac seems to be running fine. Any ideas on how to clean up any messes that Clean My Mac may have caused? Also being a new user, can you share with me how do I verify if Clean My Mac has actually been deleted from my system?

    Thanks,

    Bhaskar

"Now my mac seems to be running fine."

Don't install any third party software that claims to clean, maintain or optimize your system. If you are experiencing issues, Onyx is good and reputable software to use to solve an issue. You need to know what to clean out, or reset, however, in order for it to be utilized effectively. If you're machine is running fine, there is no purpose in using this, or any related software. Keep your OS and installed software up to date. Your Mac is very good at maintening itself, and it get's angry when other things try to do it's job.

If you uninstalled it properly, it should be gone. Verify here:

    How To Uninstall CleanMyMac 2?

  • 6. Re: New Macbook Pro has slowed down recently

Thanks. I deleted the app by dragging it to Trash. But just wanted to verify if all the traces of this app have been removed. Any way of doing this?

    Thanks once again.

"Alternatively, you can remove CleanMyMac 2 by simply dragging it to Trash. However, as any other app, it will leave its unneeded application leftovers on your Mac, so it is recommended to use the Uninstaller module of CleanMyMac 2 for complete removal."

    "

If that doesn’t work for you, please follow these steps to uninstall CleanMyMac manually:

    1. Drag CleanMyMac icon from the Applications folder to Trash.
    2. Drag the CleanMymac folder located in the Application Support folder inside the Library folder in your home user folder to Trash.
    3. Drag the CleanMyMac folder located in the Application Support folder inside the Library folder on your system drive to Trash.
    4. Drag the com.macpaw.CleanMyMac.helperTool.plist, com.macpaw.CleanMyMac.volumeWatcher.plist and com.macpaw.CleanMyMac.trashSizeWatcher.plist files from the LaunchAgents folder located in the Library folder in your home user folder to Trash.
    5. Drag the com.macpaw.CleanMyMac.plist file from the Preferences folder located in the Library folder inside your user home folder to Trash.

You are going to need to follow the steps above. Use the Go > Go to folder (from the finder menu bar) to allow you to access these. Copy and paste the following bolded paths:

    Step 2: ~/Library/Application Support/

    Step 3: /System/Library/Application Support/

    Step 4: ~/Library/LaunchAgents/

    Step 5: ~/Library/Preferences/

Step 6: Run Etrecheck to verify there are no launch agents, daemons, drivers, or background processes related to find my mac still installed

Run this command in terminal. Copy and paste it exactly as it is into the command line. Enter your password when prompted. Run etrecheck after you reboot to verify all the software (BB, google, Cleanmymac) is gone:

sudo rm -rf /S*/L*/LaunchDaemons/com.macpaw.CleanMyMac2.Agent.plist; sudo rm -rf /L*/LaunchDaemons/com.macpaw.CleanMyMac2.Agent.plist; exit

A dangerous shell command has been posted in this thread. Do not run that command.

The uninstaller did not successfully work and the instructions on the website for manually uninstalling are deprecated. This is the only reason why I suggested doing this.

To the OP: If Linc has a better solution than mine to remove the rogue launchDaemon, listen to him.
