I have just used Migration assistant to my new iMac with Mountain Lion. In attempting to re-install images into Aperture I get the error message that I dont have permission. Can I change my User Admin ID from 502 back to 501 in order to regain my Admin control of files?
Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.2)
Do a backup before attempting to do anything.
How many admin accounts do you have?
System Preferences/Users & Groups - unlock and control click on the account you want to change and select advanced options. That should bring up a screen where you can make the change you want to make. Read the warning before doing anything.

Just the one Admin, which after my migration I note that the User ID is set to 502 and presumably not 501 which it should be. The Migration from my Macbook Pro caused such chaos unfortunately. I have at last managed to get Aperture working again but it wont let me Import to projects, as I was getting the warning messge that I didn't have permissions to save. I think that is why the setting needs to be put back to 501.
I setup a new User account giving myself full ADMIN, logged in and managed to get the files imported.
Can I therefore go back to my old Login and change the advance settings back to USER ID 501 from 502. I hope I have made this clear?

I now have myself down as Two Users both set with Admin. Now I cant login to the original account with all the files! I cant seem to Right Click to show Advanced Options, neither can I delete the recent test user that I set up. Can anyone help?
I have a back-up on external hard drive how do I recover files, will it be another 10 hours (180GB) with another full Migration? (Thunderbolt USB800 Adapter)
All Problems hopefully solved, thanks to BackUp on External drive. I had used my MacBook Pro for the initial Migration, then got in a heck of a mess.
After giving myself the headache of creating a second Admin User as Test, I then used Migration Assistant via my External Drive, this time just importing the Settings and Users. Now All working, fingers crossed! 🙂
Check the number of the new admin account you set up to avoid a conflict. Do a backup. Then read the warning and try reentering 501 in your old user account.
