Recently my computer screen has completely freaked out and goes from normal, to slow and lagging, to having a static screen that I need to force shut off my computer and restart in order to go away. What is happening? How can I fix it? There was no major fall that made this happen, it's just been on the fritz lately. FYI it is a MacBook Pro purchased the summer of 2010

I tried resetting the hardware twice using the help while calling Apple support, but it still occurred afterwards, seemingly random. Its a staticy screen that is frozen and it just stays like this until I forcefully shut it off.
Does it depend on the angle of the screen or if it is moved? If so, the thin cable connecting the body to the display lid might be worn. I try not to open/close my laptop excessively because of monitor fritziness that started to happen on an old PowerBook due to a worn video cable through the hinge.
You've either a problem with your screen or your integrated GPU. You'll need to take your machine to an Apple Store or an AASP for a free diagnosis and estimate for repair. I suspect the GPU, which would entail an entire logic board replacement, which can be pretty expensive. Cross your fingers and hope that it's the screen - replacing it would be slightly less expensive.
