File Fault disk space message/Updates and password required?

New Mac mini, just set up, been exploring for the past 5 days. Twice in the last 2 days, I have received a message that "File Fault is using more disk space than necessary, would you like to creat more space?" I hit yes or continue, the notice goes away. What is happening and why? Also, yesterday I got my ist update, following the large update package on day one. This time the mini asked for a password before the update could be installed. WHY??? I called Apple and they said: Yes, all updates are downloaded in the background, BUT require a password to install. Why? Thanks, Bill

.....thanks! I guess a password with the updates in no problem. Tomorrow, I lose the mini to my son. He graduates from the police academy in Virginia and the mini is his present. Oh well, back to XP. Thanks, Bill
