What is the play icon next to the battery

Every time I got to listen to my music the play icon appears next to the battery icon. When it is there and I choose a song it ends up skipping and skipping through my music and I can't listen to them. What is it and why is this happening?

iPod touch, iOS 6.1.3, Won't let me listen to my music

The Skipping of Songs is not normal and could be software error. Reset/Restore your iPod.

The Play icon shows you that music or other sound is played. This is normal and should be there everytime to listen to music. It has nothing to do with the Skipping thing.
