iPhone 4S
You can purchase AppleCare anytime up to one year from the original date of purchase.
U.S. Info:
You have to call Apple Support to get AppleCare on an iPhone ($69). You can't get it online or in an Apple Retail Store.
AppleCare Plus is available from all three sources, within 30 days, and with a diagnosis to verify no damage to the device ($99).
You can still purcahse AppleCare for the iphone. If you call 1-800-myapple, they will let you purchase applecare for your iPhone if you are still under the warranty. The website only show AppleCare+ because they expect you to purchase it with your iPhone
See thats what i thought. It was confusing when people are saying its not available when i know it is
I know it is too. But there's no official documentation I can provide to 'prove' this, other than calling Apple Support. I know, 100%, that it's available, however, for U.S. iPhones that are still within their one-year warranty.
True. I understand. So if OP's iphone, when and if he purchases it, he still should be able to purchase AppleCare
If within a year of purchase date, non-plus APP is available, so long as nothing has 'voided' that option, like unauthorized service, jailbreaks, etc. APP (regular) was simply removed from the retail stores & online, in order to heavily promote the plus version. Apple said they were considering cancelling it entirely, but never did so. They might in the future, but as of today, it's still available.
Let me thank everyone, and update you on my potential purchase which will either happen today or it won't happen at all, the auction/Buy It Now is ending today.
Seller has stated that the iPhone5 he is selling is a replacement for his original 5 under warranty, and I have asked him for a copy of paperwork showing dated warranty period, the phone itself is still sealed & unopened. if he gets back to me I'll buy it, but only after calling Support & verifying that Apple Care is still available, which I will do this morning.
That's how careful I am being.
If you were being careful, you wouldn't be buying a phone from ebay.
Tim I was under the impression one can't buy an iPhone5 from Apple anymore. Correct?
You may still be able to walk into a store and buy it. You may also be able to purchase one directly from a carrier. You can not order one on-line from Apple any more.
Do some other looking around first, check if your carrier still has any, or maybe a retailer like Walmart or Target.
His price is $500, but I will do that.
You know, it seems to me I am chasing a dog without a tail her. The new 5c is the same price as an ebay 5, $549 and directly from Apple, full one year warranty, unlocked, no contract, gsm then buy a sim from ATT or T-Mobile. It appears there is no point in looking for a iPhone5. And I've read the battery and the camera is a little better on the 5c, supports more LTE networks, any thoughts?
And what about loss or damage coverage?
I realize this question has morphed guys, sorry.
Buy it from Apple. It will have a one year warranty, and the e-Bay version will NOT. And, you can pay $99 for AppleCare Plus, which included damage protection, whereas you may or may NOT be able to buy AppleCare (Regular) on the e-Bay one.
You'll pay about $80 more, but it's a much better investment of your money, IMHO.
If the phone the seller has is an actual warranty replacement, then it is not in a sealed and unopened box, unless they come that way when Apple Care replaces them via mail. Phones replaced at the Apple store for warranty are just handed to the individual with no box. Replacement phones also do not come with the additional accessories like charger and earphones. If you are supposed to be getting everything, then it would have to be piecemeal to include everything.
