Iphone 5 wont pair with my new macbook pro

I just bought a macbook pro 2.7GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 16GB of 1600MHz DDR3L onboard memory

I saw on a fair a person using the reflector app on his macbook pro. he had just simply paired his iphone 5 with his macbook pro using bluetooth.

I tried it on my macbook pro but it wont pair.

When i searh after new devices it finds my iphone and sends a code to my iphone. my macbook pro says that my phone is now paired but not connected.

On my iphone 5 i can see my macbook pro but it says not connected. when i press "not connected" i get an error message saying that my macbook pro arent supported.

I saw in another thread somesone saying you cant pair your iphone to your macbook pro using bluetooth, but that cant be right cause i saw it yesterday at the fair.

Help anyone?

The iPhone will not natively pair with the MacBook Pro. The App you quote would be required to perform what you wish.

I just bought my partner a full desktop workspace in an ipod dock, Logitech switcher keyboard, magic mouse, I pad cover (Licenced apple cover) and the only thing that acctually works as planned is the mouse and the keyboard. The keyboard connects to everything and the mouse works fine. However the case which was licenced by apple, does not fit in the apple dock. Which I find absoloutly rediculous. and then to top that off, the Iphone 5S will not connect at all to the Macbook pro 13". This is the most rediculous part of everything I've seen in apple. Simplicity is king and yet stupidity has overrun in the, what I'm assuming is the decision to outmode the macbook pro (non retina) and render it useless.

Please Apple fix this major and highly imobilizing issue that is rendering the Iphone isolated and somewhat unused in the system that is supposed to be working.

Thanks Carl. Your post helped me to connect my iPhone with my MBP to share the mobile internet connection. You are absolutely wright: Where is the easy way Apple usually provides us with? Failing to connect Bluetooth, then right-clicking on MBP's Bluetooth profile for the failed iphone connection and then still being able to connect to the network is no way straight forward! Apple needs to fix this.

True you cannot simply connect between iPhone and Macbook unless you want to use the iPhone as a Bluetooth hotspot. (I use PhoneView to connect to the iPhone as a file viewer)

Even the Bluetooth hotpot process is not straightforward. To make it work I opened Bluetooth Prefs and selected pair with my iPhone 5s -- iPhone must have hotspot active. As soon as it connects and you select Pair on the iPhone, they disconnect again! But, right-click the iPhone device on the Mac and select 'Connect to Network' and there you go. However, my speed tests show that the Bluetooth hotspot connection is very slow compared to a wifi hotspot connection, so the whole process seems a waste of time other than academic exercise.

Yep, I can confirm that approach works on my setup as well. Thankyou.

Just as an FYI, I did contact Apple support, as well as this bluetooth 'niggle' I also have problems with my wireless hotspot requiring a restart before it is detected by the Macbook Pro after a connectiond drop.

On the bluetooth issue, I was informed by Apple Support that the IPhone 5S only contains bluetooth audio profiles and that using it as a hotspot is not fully supported, only supported over wireless. I don't know if that is helpful to you guys.

My equipment is a box fresh (with updates) Macbook Pro Retina 13 and an IPhone 5S with latest IOS.

Im having the same problem as everyone else. Bluetooth Iphone 5 wont connect to my 2011 MacBook Pro.

They will pair indefintely, but when trying to connect, they will for about a second before disconnecting.

Ive tried connecting and disconnecting, nothing works.

I am very good with Macs (used only Apple computers from age 6-20) and good at messing with/figuring out bluetooth so I know this is Apple's issue that needs to be fixed.

Why are you all so surprised by the shortcomings of your Apple products? By now, as MBP owners, you would have discovered that it's not the premium product you thought it was.. as you know there are a whole host of technical/design problems, eg: your MBP heats up like a hot plate and you can never use it as a laptop.. or your thighs will melt! And yes, ALL I Phones cannot pair with MBPs via Bluetooth.. but why be shocked? You now know you were conned into paying much more for a product which uses pretty much the same inner components as other computers, eg: CPUs, hard drives, etc, etc... So stop complaining and just accept you made a big mistake.. and should have done more research rather than forking a ton of dough out just for aesthetics....

So to confirm to everyone: I PHONES DON"T PAIR UP WITH MCPs VIA BLUETOOTH (and yes, other makes of phones do!!)

As far as I am concerned Apple equipment is far superior than any other Windows or Chrome based crapwear out there. And for everyones info Bluetooth is not meant as anything more than a way to connect perrifiral devices like keyboards and mice etc. So I am no at all upset it can't connect to my Macbook Pro. As far as it running hot, I have a top of the line Windows based laptop that runs even hotter. Also iPhones do pair, but don't say paired even when they are. But a little advice is pair the iPhone in both directions. Pair once from the Macbook then once from the iPhone. I did that with Token Lock and I have siginal all the time. The iPhone phases bluetooth to conserve power.

Hey Joel.. you should work for Apple in their marketing department... but then again, you might not get a job as your knowledge of tech seems quite limited..

Your Point 1: you say that Bluetooth is only a means to connect "perrifiral" (you mean peripheral) devices like keyboards and mice. Do you not know how important Bluetooth is? It enables a user to use their phone to be used with multiple handsfree devices (eg: using your phone in your car) and most important, means you don't have to use a cable to connect with your MBP.. (remember how WiFi is so popular? and it's also not just a means of connecting a peripheral device!)...

Your Point 2: you say that Apple is far superior than any Windows or Chrome based "crapwear" (no clue what that is in tech terms..). Why is Apple superior? Did you know that the internal components of Apple are mostly third party components used by other PC manufacturers, eg: your CPU and hard drive? I think you (like most other Apple owners) were sold on Apple by all the hype.. and aesthetics.

Your Point 3: you say that other PCs run hot like a MBP. This is totally not true. MBP's get v hot mainly due to the aluminium base plate that conducts heat more efficiently than a plastic cover. This is why many other PCs use plastic on the base even though the rest of the PC is made of metal (eg: Samsung or Sony). If you don't agree with me, just google the thousands of complaints about the heat problem with MBPs...

So bottom line is that you are a great example of so many Apple users who have been encouraged by great marketing to pay much more for a PC that is pretty much like many other cheaper PCs.. but those don't burn your thighs when you use them as a laptop.. and of course their Bluetooths work with phones (albeit Android phones!)).
