Change Negotiation speed

I have found that my Airport Extreme is causing my connection speed to the internet to decrease by 60%. If I connect the cable modem to directly to my MacMini I get 10.0mps but when I put the Airport Extreme between the modem and MacMini my speed is 4.0mps. I looking online I see that one thing to look at is the connection speed of the WAN port and Ethernet ports and to make sure they are set to Auto. However, in Airport Utility 6.x there is no place to check this. How does one, using the latest Airport Utility, check the port speed settings on the Airport Extreme?

Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.7.5), Really using MacOS X 10.8.5

Apple removed the WAN port setttings in AirPort Utility 6.x in favor of a default setting of "Automatic" with no ability to change things....so it is not possible to check the port settings at all.

Is this using Ethernet to connect the MacMini to a LAN <-> port on the AirPort Extreme....or....are you connecting the MacMini using wireless?

What is the make and model number of the cable modem?

MacMini, Airport Express and 8 port switch in attic are connect to the LAN and Motorola S6121 modem connected to the WAN. The S6121 firmware is up to date. It seems that the problem is with the Airport Extreme since I get full speed with out the Exteme in the loop.

I have restarted the Extreme but this did not help. Should I reset the Extreme? I would hate to have to replace the unit.

Thanks for the additional information.

About all that you can do is perform a Hard Reset on the AirPort Extreme to clear out the old settings and then configure it again to see if that helps.

To perform a Hard Reset, with the AirPort Extreme powered on....hold in the reset button for 9-10 seconds and release. Allow a full minute for the AirPort Extreme to restart with a slow, blinking amber light.

Now reconfigure the AirPort Extreme again. If you have a spare Ethernet cable, go ahead and try that as well....you never know with Ethernet cables.

If you try the Hard Reset a few times and this results in no improvement, there is really nothing left to do but try another router. Or....if you have another Mac running Leopard or Snow Leopard, you could use AirPort Utility on that Mac to try some different settings for the WAN port.

Please post back on your results.
