How do I delete a picture from my desktop pictures folder on my iMac (Snow Leopard)?

I can't figure out how to delete pictures from my pictures folder for desktop. It would be nice if I could right click on the photo and have the option to delete. Thank you!

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
