power/sleep issues after upgrading to 10.8.5

mac mini

2.6 GHz intel core i7

512 SSD

16 GB RAM

everything was working beautifully for quite a long time, in fact, i've never had any issues at all. upgraded to 10.8.5 build 12F37 last night and now the computer won't wake from sleep. it has to be forced off and then restarted in order to get it to "come back".

reset the PRAM and the SMC, i'm hoping that resolves the issue, but i'd love to hear if anyone else is having the same issue and how they solved it.

thanks!

Mac mini, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), build 12C60

Ok I left the computer on sleep overnight, without Logic Pro on, but with Avid Mbox2, Evolution USB midi keyboard, and Seagate MyBackup USB 3 Drive all connected, it woke up fine from the mouse, and it was in deep sleep not just display sleep.

So the problem in my case happens when Logic Pro is active(and I do not think it is recommended to use Logic Pro X and sleep, although it did not cause any problems before 10.8.5., system would always wake up fine). Also my Logic Pro X projects run off the internal HD.

(iMac 27", Quad i7, late 2012 - the new line of iMacs, 1TB HD, Logic Pro X)

I've got a workaround involving a shell script, so you need to be able to use Terminal.app and unix shell.

Here it is:

#!/bin/bash

while true

do

date > /wakey

date > /Volumes/NameOfHardDrive1/wakey

date > /Volumes/NameOfHardDrive2/wakey

date > /Volumes/NameOfHardDrive3/wakey

date > /Volumes/NameOfHardDrive4/wakey

/bin/sleep 30

done

That script is an example of the one I use, with the names of my volumes changed to generic names, which you should change to the ones you have. I call it funny enough 'wakey' as in wakey wakey sleepy head 🙂

if you leave the script in your home directory, then you can invoke it from Terminal by typing /bin/bash ~/wakey (or whatever you call it)

I've been having similar problems since upgrading to OS X 10.8.5 on my iMac.

It has been running perfectly prior to this. Now, it will not wake from sleep - losing all connectivity and requiring a restart. I can sometimes see the screen, but since none of the peripherals respond it doesn't help. Other times I just get a totally blank screen on attempting to wake.

I've tried the Combo installer, but it makes no difference.

I really hope that Apple fixes this soon.

My issue seems to be solved:

The 10.8.5 update made Backup run; while this was happening the computer would not sleep.

The backup is now finished(7GB) and the ability to sleep has returned.

My configuration is :

Mac Pro

4 internal disks, of which one is for backup.

Some data are also backed up on my laptop. and on external drives.

Usb keyboard, Wacom tablet connected.

Hi there,

is this problem solved already? I have had a similar issue where my mid 2009 MBP 13inch, when I closed the lid, went to sleep mode with a delay of approx. 30 seconds, although hibernate mode was put to 0 (suspend to RAM). I tried several things (PRAM reset, SMC reset, repaired rights, repaired disks, installed combo 10.8.5 update, safe mode) and I noticed that when in safe mode, without any third party apps running, closing the lid makes it sleep immediately. So I restarted in normal ("unsafe") mode and started one app after the other and it seems to be Google Chrome keeping the MacBook from falling to sleep immediately. Does this maybe help in your cases as well?
