Yeah, the smaller you make it the less room it'll take up. If you import a photo off a memory card, the iPad often says it 'optimizes' the photo for the iPad, but when you sync it I don't believe the file is altered.

The sync process compresses the JPEG files -- the question is how much, so that I can determine a) how many photos 32 gigs will store in sync, and b) can I reduce the memory required by taking smaller jpeg files with my camera
