Mailto: links don't work

Hello everyone,

I'm in the process of re-building a couple of webpages and I want to include a contact link, that happened to be working the last time I tested it, which was last year and it worked fine. A few weeks ago, I visited my website and clicked on the "contact," link which had my email address in the source and took anyone to their webmail form to be able to write to me, but now I am taken to another page that tells me that Safari can't open the specified address because Mac OS X doesn't recognize Internet addresses starting with "mailto." When I go to other browsers to test my page, when I click on the link, it remains static. So, I'm assuming the link must not be taking visitors to their webmail form. I'm using the Komper editor for building the pages. Would anyone be able to tell me how to fix this or what format I need to put this in, so that I can be contacted? I'd be most appreciative for any insight. Thank you. -Ella

Does the test link here work ?

If so, alter your code to match the example.

If not - open Mail - Preferences - General & make sure that Mail is set as the default email reader.

In that case, since the test doesn't work - it's very likely due only to your not having an email application, so Safari doesn't know what to do with such links. Try downloading Thunderbird - there's no need to set it up or use it - ust open it & agree that it should be the default client, then try a mailto link.

If you want to post a link to your page for checking, do so.

Hi Andy:

You were positively right. I reinserted the code again on my webpage as you instructed, because I remembered that I had the mail app (stamp icon) on my older mac computer and when I clicked on the link from that computer, it worked! The link worked on all the other browsers using my older computer, but the link does not work when I am using Safari, AOL or Firefox, but it does work using SeaMonkey on my main (newer) computer. Sure I'll be glad to put up a webpage with the code you gave me. to see if it works. Really appreciate all your help! Thanx. -Ella
