How do I paste objects into Keynote as pdf or picture file types from Excel?

How do I paste objects into Keynote as pdf or picture file types from Excel? Specifically I want to paste a table into Keynote as a png or pdf image file from Excel; in powerpoint you would use "Paste Special" what's the keynote equivalent?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Drag the file from a Finder window direct onto a Keynote slide.

Is there not a way to do this directly from Excel into Keynote? It's less convenient to have to use Preview (or any number of other programs) as an intermediate. Thanks though, this does work!
