is there any way to download/ buy lion online? It seems that you can only download the newest mac os X on the app store. What if I don't want the newst version but one of the older ones?
I'm using a Macbook white and I don't want to install mountain lion because I don't want my macbook to become slower than it actually is already.

To get Lion call Apple and they will send you a code to purchase it. But there's really little reason not to install ML, it is a more efficient Lion.
EDIT: Perhaps you should troubleshoot why your MacBook is so slow now, before installing anything?
Is your Macbook early 2008 or older? Then it won't run Mountain Lion. As for Lion, it is somewhat of a memory hog - how much RAM do you have? A minimum of 4 GB is generally recommended.
