newly updated iTunes 11.1 shows old podcasts which can't be deleted... any ideas for a solution?

I am also having this problem, specially with the Science Friday Podcast, but none of the other 30ish podcasts I subcribe to. I thought I was the only one. I guess not.

I am using the Apple Podcasts app on an iPhone 5S, and Mavericks on my iMac, all with the absolute latest updates to the everything. Episodes of Science Friday keep coming back from Sept 5th on, no matter what I do. It's like a virus! I have tried marking the casts as 'listened to', syncing, then deleting them, deleting them outright, etc., etc., but they keep comming back.

So frustrated! I see the last reply on this is Oct 27. Any new info since then?

Upgarded to 11.1.3 (on same Snow Leopard machine) but still no solution to this bug: When I delete a podcast episode (including from Science Friday and Security Now at least), the next time I update podcasts the deleted episode is redownloaded. Marking them as played (or actually playing them) before deleting them has no effect.

In case it matters, these podcasts are in playlists (before being deleted), both smart and dumb.

Just updated to v 11.1.4 and this is STILL a problem. I sent feedback again, for all the good it'll do.

I have the same exact problem when I am trying to delete from my smart playlists. They will just download & reappear.

Only when I select "Podcasts" from the top, locate the podcast I want to delete, can I delete the podcast I am done with and it won't reappear.

One trick that I find works is keep the most recent episode in your smart playlist and delete only those that are older, and they don't re-download. Or right click on the episode you are done with and choose show in playlist select it, delete it, and return to your playlist. It is a real hastle, because itunes doesn't give you a back button to quickly navigate to where you were before.

I hope this helps...

Well, I thought 11.1.x had FINALLY allowed us to delete episodes from My Podcasts instead of just from List view. With 11.2, it looks like those geniuses at Apple have decided we don't know what we wnat after all. Now, I cannot delete episodes from My Podcasts. Instead, 11.2 merely puts the little cloud after an epsiode that was "deleted" instead of removing it from my view, leaving the page really crowded. Deleting from within Lists seems to work, but I have a suspicion that deleted epsiodes just wait around until a new day to reappear in My Podcasts.

Will they never learn that some of us want to get rid of podcast episodes as WE want, not just automatically 24 hours after they are played?

So, this morning, I went to iTunes like I usually do, and I hit refresh on the Podcasts to download the latest episodes from overnight.

I noticed something odd - it's downloading episodes of a podcast that I already listened to from last month, showing "1 of 31" etc.

So, I paused the downloads, went into my podcast listing, and I saw 31 duplicate entries with clouds next to them. I deleted all of those entries. I assume the podcaster changed feeds overnight, which is why all of the previous entries now appear as new entries.

But here's the kicker - I hit the refresh button again; after all, I would like to get the OTHER new content from all my other subscriptions. And what does iTunes do? It goes and downloads all of the "missing" episodes, and then deletes them! What the heck is up with that? Glad I'm not paying for bandwidth by the bit.

Seriously, Apple, can you explain to me the logic behind that one? I delete an entry so that I don't have to download it, but you go ahead and download and THEN delete it?

Yup. Following the latest iTunes update (which feature supposedly improved poscast management) iTunes went and re-downloaded tons of previously downloaded, listened to, and deleted podcasts, requiring me to go back and delete them again.

Unfortunately, this seems to have become normal for Apple. It's sloppy deveelopment.

My workaround is to go to the smart playlist, enter "9999" in the grouping field, go to the playlist section (list view), search for 9999, then delete. It's a BIG pain in the butt, but it's how I was deleting before I learned the SHIFT-DEL shortcut.

Seems that 11.2 has broken my lovely workaround for an 11.1 update problem. The problem : you could no longer delete podcasts from a smart playlist; they would keep coming back. My workaround is above.

With 11.2 when you change the grouping field it also permanently changes the grouping field for the podcasts title line (the one with the little triangle next to it). Therefore, when I search for the "9999" I now get all the podcasts and not just the ones I wanted to delete.

Any other workarounds?
