iOS7 missing podcast list in Music app

Did it get moved anywhere? It's referenced in Settings (Lyrics & Podcast Info), but it's not showing up in the actual Music app.

I'm pretty sure the 1x, 2x etc speeds were available in the old Music app b/c I would accidentally hit them from time to time.

Anywho, I downloaded the Podcast app and I'll live with it if I have to but I have two questions:

1. I have a 3-hour podcast that I listen to that loads in in 3 one-hour segments. In the Podcast app it'll play hour 3, then 2, then 1...instead of 1, then 2, then 3. Is there any way to change this? (I'm assuming it's because it's playing the "oldest" first, and hour 1 would technically be the oldest since it loads in first. I generally have several days' worth piled up, so changing the setting to play the newest first doesn't work b/c then it plays them in 1-2-3 order but starts with say, today's rather than yesterday's podcast).

2. With the Music app, if I had to stop listening to a podcast then go back to it minutes or hours later, all I would have to do is double press the home button and the player would appear on the locked screenn and I could just press play (so I wouldn't have to swipe, go to the Music app, and press play). That isn't the case any more.

I guess #2 isn't a question, just an observation.

When I can listen to the podcast using music app, I can see lyrics. This is a great feature for language learning podcast.

After the podcast is moved to podcast app, I can not see lyrics part of the podcast, which makes the device less valuable for language learning.

So, I'd like to make comeback podcast genre in the music app or display lyrics part in the podcast app.

Apple enforced me to use podcast app, and give me frustration and disappointment, which makes me remembering experience with microsoft software.

On seeing lyrics: note that you still seem to be able to change the Media Kind of downloaded podcasts. I'm relabelling lots of them as Audiobooks, which moves them out of Podcasts and into Audiobooks, and additionally restores the lyrics - which, as manabu says, are often essential for language podcasts.

A couple of caveats:

  • After a podcast has been changed to an audiobook, the same episode will unfortunately download again. At the moment what I'm doing is then marking the new and redundant download as played, and then it'll disappear (note that, as best I can tell, deleting it doesn't work: it'll still come back). Oh, and of course, "disappear" just means the file is no longer on the computer - it'll stupidly linger on in the Podcasts List forever and ever, with a little cloud icon beside it.
  • Previously I've been unable to change the Media Kind of podcasts that were downloaded on the iPhone rather than on the computer. I'm not sure if that's still the case with iOS 7 / iTunes 11.1.

But yeah, right now this is immensely frustrating. I hope syncing of played and unplayed episodes is at least going to work now across my iOS devices and my computer - the failure to sync was the big reason I'd been refusing to use the Podcasts app, which had at least reached the stage where it was moderately useful if I was using ONLY my iPhone for Podcasts (as of a week ago it was still a disaster for actually trying to keep track of played and unplayed podcasts across iOS devices and a computer).

My sentiments exactly, and expresesed more colorfully than I could have.

I think it's dumb, in any case, but there's a bigger problem than just dumbness. My 2012 Honda Accord only knows about the iPod app on my phone when I plug it in using the car's USB port. This means that I can no longer listen to podcasts in the car via the built-in integration. Isn't that the number one place to listen to podcasts, and Apple has now broken it? Luckily, I have a workaround - a *separate* interface into which I can plug the phone, and operate a podcast app (I will be trying Downcast) manually via the phone. But I'm a technical person, and my solution is definitely not for "the rest of us."

I'm hoping that Apple listens to these comments and restores the functionality. The fact that there are over 20 compliants in the first 12 hours on the first day after they broke the functionality suggests there are a lot of people out there now suffering from this change.

As a listener to The Economist weekly podcast - 8 hours of audio split into normally 70 sections, I found the Music Player invaluable for skipping between sections. Having just upgraded to iOS7, I find my podcasts missing from the Music Player (as everyone else) but available in the Podcast App, where the section breaks are ignored and the podcast is represented as an 8 hour single track. Nice one Apple! Please at least give us the same level of functionality on a mjaor upgrade, not less.

Well, I noted this before upgrading to iOS 7. I want my podcasts in the Music app so I guess i won't upgrade just yet. Evidently Apple thinks they are catering to uknown customers who insist that it shouldn't even be possible to listen to podcasts in the music app, that the choice should not even be allowed. Who would think that way?

On what Apple's thinking: my guess is that they firmly believe that podcasts consist ONLY of today's current affairs shows - their template for podcasts seems to assume that podcasts are meant to appear only in the library for a brief time, and then disappear, hence odd labels like "My Stations". And, after all, who'd want to listen to a one hour political podcast in the middle of a random mix of songs?

Of course, podcasts are a lot more varied than this, so god knows why Apple persists in following this template - and getting more and more obsessed with it for each update.

Repeating the tip I offered above: if you want to do much with podcasts, Get Info, and change the Media Kind to Music or Audiobook (depending on what you want it for). I tend to keep the "contemporary news" stuff as Podcasts, but things that are more timeless - music podcasts, or Stuff You Should Know, or This American Life - get relabelled.

thanks!!! i'm going to do that now ... i absolutely HATE the podcast app!! i listen to podcasts in through the car's bluetooth capabilities. If i get a phone call it shuts down the podcast but i have to restart manually after the call... its very annoying especially since you have to scroll through everything now to find the right one again ... I HATE THE PODCAST APP!

Just upgraded to ios7. Used to use Music App for podcasts, but now I can't. I never switched to the Podcasts app since it doesn't support Shuffle - and still doesn't. With ios7, none of my podcasts would download until I installed Podcasts. The Podcasts app still stinks. Switching to commercial app. Annoying....
