IOS 7 wallpaper resizing will not shrink photo to fit screen...

After update, wallpaper stretchs larger than image. Unable to resize smaller to fit screen. My photo only measures 24k @ 261x231 and is HUGE; bigger than the screen can accommodatem (shrink). Cannot resize smaller to fit screen. Any ideas/suggestions? I have tried resizing my photo (smaller crop in size and dimensions) and photos render too large for screen. Cannot resize smaller to fit. I know I am repeating myself. Just to be clear. Am I doing something incorrectly in IOS 7? Any ideas/suggestions or similar problems solving input would be appreciated.

When I switched to iOS 7 I could not longer use my favorite pictures as my wallpaper. I was very disapointed about that and decided to create a little app to fix my problem. I saw that this is a problem many users are running into, so I chose to make my little helper called Wallpaper Fix public.

Wallpaper Fix lets you freely resize, rotate and position your picture in order to use it as your custom iOS 7 wallpaper..

iOS 7 needs wallpapers to be of specific dimensions in order to work properly with the parallax effect, just position your picture the way you want it and Wallpaper fix does the rest automatically for you.

Unfortunately this is NOT a bug, although it is a terrible change, as I spoke to Apple today and they confirmed it is supposed to work like that, but who knows why. They say you should get round it by messing around editing the photo but why add the extra hassle. It's a bit like the terrible folder colours and navigation colour you get forced to use when IO7 samples some random bit of your wallpaper colour to 'try' and blend it, but it just makes the whole screen look insipid. Why not allow the user to change that colour?

I'm yet to find anything I like about IO7 on my new iphone 5s and it's so bad that I think I'm going to return it for a Samsung even though I've always used iphones and have been a big apple fan. This operating system is just too bad to put up with for potentially the two years of my new phone contract after changing from the iphone 4.

I turned on the parallax feature again. Still of the opinion that this feature was just Apple trying to add something cutesy in an attempt to be cool, but didnt really add any value except a WOW effect that wears off after a while. In doing so, Apple killed a feature that allowed us to enjoy our pictures without having to re-work what we already have and take more storage space on our devices (original picture and modified picture) and I say again, that I dont appreciate the fact that they did not remove the "size and move" from 7. Seeing it every time is an awful reminder of this situation. Hope they fix the situation or remove the option that doesnt work.

So I am really ****** at this point. I have the following question of Apple: If you use a lock screen (many of us do are are required by our employers) and you loose your ipad/iphone when it is in Airplane mode therer is no way to tell someone who finds your device how to contact you. Really? Mcfly? Hello? I guess in this case Apple just wants you to buy a new device. And how easy is this on a Blackberry? Really Apple?

So then I figure I will just edit a picture with Photoshop and put my details in a text box. I did this in 5 mins. Saved to my deviced and then set as Lock Screen? I was hoping to use the same photo for my iPad mini and my iPhone 5s. Nope! I played with the iPhone sizing until I got it to work. Apple chooses resize the photo to a differnt size but doens't tell you. I spent 30 mins messing around with PS for my iPad screen photo. Still can't find the right one. So I called Apple and asked what resolution the Lock Screen resizes to? He had NFC.

Can you guys be any more inept at this. Back to messing around with PS to get one that works. So an hour or more into doing this for my 2 devices and not even what I really want! Amazing you can be so good at some design elements and ergonomics and so clueless at others.

I think Apple have lost the plot completely! The issue is clear to see and for them not too designate this as a bug, is extraordinary.

You have a 'move and scale' option when attempting to set your lockscreen/wallpaper images, but the instant you let go to set it, the picture zooms in again ... how is that NOT a bug?

The iPhone was amazing when it first came out but I've not had one since the iPhone 1 and won't be going back anytime soon. I do have an iPad primarily for carrying my tunes around with me and facetime is fabulous, great device but I think destined to be overtaken by other tablets on the market, especially if Apple don't listen to their customers feedback - they can't survive on past glories alone.

I only read part of these posts but I have been having the same issue. I tried some of the workarounds listed here, to no avail. I have an ipad2 and found a picture I just loved. It was saved to my camera roll and was perfectly sized there but everytime I went to use as wallpaper it blew up so everything was cut off.

This is what I did.

I went to the app store and downloaded a free cropper called Sizeit.

Once it is on your ipad go into it and it will say - Click here to load photos - click that.

Then click - Grab from Library.

Choose the photo you want from your pictures in your camera roll.

Resize it with your fingers - add a colored background if you want - then click Export. It will save the newly resized photo back to your camera roll.

Once back at the camera roll find your picture and click the box an arrow icon at the bottom left of your screen and set it as your wallpaper.

I was able to resize without a problem.

I hope this can help anyone.

Wallpaper fix is pretty good for only a buck and absolutely the simplest way.

It however, does not automatically center the image so you have to mess with moving it around and looking for edges. (The old way just double-tapping it centered your presized images automatically.)

Apparently, the new (broken) software uses some demented logic which is based on a square rectangle. What works for me is using Irfanview... (Mine is the new iPad aka #3) (1536 x 2048)

1. Resize/crop your image to exactly 2048 pixels high.

2. Crop your image to a maximum of 1536 OR,

crop the image so the subject is centered.

3. Using the Change Canvas Size function, Method #2

Set the WIDTH to be 2048, Centered. Canvas color your choice.

4. Save the image and import/transfer/sync into the iPad.

5. Set wallpaper as normal.

This way, the height will automatically be full image top to bottom with nothing lost. You can move it left or right to see the canvas color if you like. However, double-clicking on the image will center the now 2048 x 2048 and your image will be in the center of the 2048 canvas which gets cut-off. (Or is exposed if your image is smaller than the 1536 dimension to start with.

Thanks Zebryk I am glad you like it.

You can center your picture in Wallpaper fix with just double tapping on the picture. It will automatically find the best fit for your image.

If you ment it will not automatically center the image when you saved it from Wallpaper Fix and set it as a wallpaper you are partially right.

It will do it if you create a portrait wallpaper, it will not if you create a landscape wallpaper.

This was a bug, I already fixed it and submitted an update to apple so this should be available shortly.

If you guys have any questions please feel free to ask.

I cant just follow the screenshot theory.

You are right it reduces the zooming because it adds a black bar on top and bottom but it does not solve the problem.

The image still gets zoomed and you can not influence in any way how your image is positioned as wallpaper.

So this is not a real solution unfortunately.

Glad it works for you but it still cuts of my pictures. ;(

Yep there are loads of ways round this problem BUT the point really is that you shouldn't have to do some workaround however easy or difficult to simply apply wallpaper to your iphone, especially when the image is a photo taken on your iphone! The other key point is Apple ludicrously don't see this as a bug!! As you said above they use some 'demented' logic to deliberately adjust the image as I spoke to Apple tech support about it and the guy confirmed it was meant to happen. He was trying to justify it as I was laughing back at him, until he caved mid-way through explaining a workaround, and agreed it wasn't great that you needed to even have this workaround.

Apple really have lost the plot on the design/usability front, and this unnecessary problem reminds me a lot of the recent iTunes problem when they for some bizarre reason decided it was a good idea to remove the sort function from song lists etc, until enough people complained for long enough, and kept looking for old software versions to regress back. Even now many don't upgrade to newer Apple software versions until they are somehow forced to as they don't trust it will be better, and some decent functions have not got removed.

Back to the phone, I also find it incredible that a phone in 2013 can't even be colour customized as old phones could right back to the Nokia days. For example how hard would it be to allow the user to change colours so that you didn't have to have your white iphone using a whilte text background and bright green message boxes, or have app folder colours that tried to merge with their background and ultimately left you with something like a sickly flesh coloured or tan folder. Anyway my new iphone 5s is on it's way back before the cooling off period ends for the Samsung due to IOS7, and my wife who's a designer and current iphone 4 owner is also now upgrading to a Samsung rather the iphone 5 after spending an hour or so using my IOS7 phone and being amazed at how ogly it is. The Apple tech guy I spoke to tried to dissuade me from binning mine by saying he didn't like a lot about IOS7 either when he first used it, but he's 'now got used to it'. You don't want to have to 'get used to something' bad, you want to actually like it because it's good to start with, at least have it be better than an out-dated version i.e. make it an upgrade! Perhaps Apple have a new designer that is trying to justify his position by chaging things that don't need fixing.

Zebryk,

the bug is only on the iPad in landscape mode.

iPad portrait and iphone are perfectly fine and work like a charm.

This always depends on apple as it has to go through the review process. I am expecting it should be avalable within this week or early next week.

@Elsie777

youre are correct, you should not have to do some workaround in order to set your wallpaper like you want it.

Unfortunatelly I dont see that apple will change this behaviour because this is not a bug for them.
