This has been very frustrating and annoying. I HAD the same problem with no sound and no sound bar after upgrading to ios7. I tried EVERYTHING, bar throwing the phone against a wall. Eventually I realised that the charging point was MY problem with the phone. I played some music (obviously with no sound coming from speakers), and I got a dinner knife to GENTLY apply pressure to the top and bottom of the connector. I noticed that the song went to pause, so I played the song, and sound returned...... for about 2 seconds! And did this process again, and voila! It works again.

I hope this helps people. Remember, I did restore, clean, apply pressure to bottom right corner of phone, restart, reboot, do all sorts of things via settings, etc. But the dock WAS the problem on my case.

Good luck to the remaining afflicted!

I've read the 12 pages of posts in this forum and figured this out:

This no-sound problem has many different causes. I tried each solution as I read them in these pages until

I found the one that worked. It was cleaning the dock connection on my iphone 4. I had all the same issues rveryone here has: no sound except through headphones. I tried every software solution and none worked. I had a song playing (of course you can't hear it) and as I cleaned the dick connector, the sound suddenly came back on.

If you have this problem: try each solution suggested in this forum. You should eventually find the one that works for you!

Posting this for anyone's benefit that is still having this issue. I have an iPad 2. After update to iOS 7.0.4 the sound did not work. I tried everything (reset, reinstall, reboot) including the accessibility work around, it actually brought the sound back moementarily and then went silent again. The last thing I tried was taking a q-tip and rubbing alcohol and cleaning the contacts on the dock port. The sound immediately came back after reboot and has been working fine for the past week. It works in all modes and is as normal. Hope this helps.

hey if you want fix this translate this into english,I dont know how do it in english but Im sure you will be happy

Finally!!!

I have tried everything discussed above. Nothing worked.

Then I tried what javierfrt described. It works!! And it has been working for more than a month now.

I basically covered the connector with a kitchen plastic wrap and inserted it as usual in the iPad.

Then I just tried to play a couple of songs and the sound came back. It failed once some minutes later. I repeated the procedure and the sound is back since then.

I've also recently been hit with this problem after an update..7.1 is the latest my phone, a 4S has downloaded. I've completed all suggestions. I've done a factory restore...a restore through Itunes, by plugging my phone into the computer through USB. I'm about to go nutty here.

I'll share the fix that actually worked for me, but unfortunately, this only worked momentarily. Perhaps you'll have better luck. I did the squeezing solution, squeezing just to the right of the home button.. I don't know if there is a correlation here, but I lost the sound again, it was when I exited one App, specifically, Farm Heroes Saga (the sounds of the game is a MAJOR reason why I play, it's adorable) I then exited that App then went to the Music app to play Itunes Radio. Sound was gone. Volume slider was grayed out, same problem again. Now that I think about it, it was after loading Itunes or the Itunes music default app when it first started after the update. I'm running iOS 7.1 on my 4S

This squeezing technique hasn't worked again, though. And it's really quite literally a pain to do this, as I have arthritis in my hands. This has gotten quite frustrating to say the least. I see that it's been an issue for quite some time, and it's still no solid fix that works for everybody, it seems these fixes are sporadic, some work for one, while others work for another. It's unacceptable quite honestly.

I'm ready to just eat the cost and upgrade early. And it most certainly will NOT be an iphone that I'll be getting. I'm not due to upgrade until March '15. I can't even deal with this for a year. No way. I'm missing some important texts due to not hearing the text sound. If I'm just sitting, it's set to vibrate and I leave it in my lap so I "feel" the text alert. Not convenient. I hope that my solution, albeit a very short one is able to work for someone.

Similar issues here with iPhone 4 upgraded to 7.1 with some differences. I had to go back to the iPhone 4 as my 4s cracked. I can hear music fine on the phone through the speaker. People can call me and I can hear the ring. The mute issue only occurs when I make a connection by phone. The other person cannot hear me and I cannot hear them. This is regardless of whether I try speaker, directly on the phone or bluetooth. Also, I do not hear ringing at all when I am calling. I also was not hearing the numbers when I made a call UNTIL I did the "Assitive Touch" manuever that was described here. Now I can hear the phone keys being pressed, but still have all of the other problems. So basically, at this point I have an iPod. This sounds better than others with no sound at all, but what I need is a working cellphone. I thought this was an issue isolated to my iPhone 4 until I found this thread. I was switching back to my iPhone 4 for now and holding out for the iPhone 6 but if this stuff is not going to work I may have to go out and switch to (the horror) another hardware device. Gasp.

Thank you ! Thank you !! Thank you !!!

The sound problem was driving me nuttier.

OTHERS:

1. Go to...Settings->General->Accessibility->AssistiveTouch

2. Turn ON AssistiveTouch - an icon will appear on the screen

3. Touch the icon

4. Touch Device

5. Touch Unmute

6. Touch your way out of AssisitveTouch

7. Turn OFF AssistiveTouch - optional

8. Enjoy the Sounds

This method did not work for me.

I can't believe Apple have not fixed this bug after 2 years!!!!! Ever since I upgraded my iPhone 4S to iOS 7 this bug was present. I was within warranty then and should have got it replaced. I thought it was a settings issue. And now I have upgraded to iOS 8.1 and the bug is still present. I lose full sound to audio and video, the volume bar, the key clicks. I can slide the ringer bar up and down and that works fine but all other sound is not working. It works randomly sometimes and them goes off for long periods of time.

On top of that, I have not been able to power off my 4S. It reboots back up. I have tried cleaning the dock port gently with compressed air and soft brush but that did not help.

This is very pathetic and embarrassing for Apple not to fix this after years of so many complaints. I know what my next phone will NOT be, Apple.
