I am really sorry to her your story, indeed it is an alarming situation that Apple is not taking care of his valued customer. I am not based in US so no apple protection plan or apple store care applied here. But I also faced the same problem after 5 days of upgrade. It happen twice no sound on any app, gsm call , internet call, music, lock sound etc etc...... Both time it resolved after restarting the phone. I hate this. This is the minmum one expect from a phone to receive and send the voice call. Apple has to pretest their baby softwares before millions to face silly problems on an immensely expensive phone...

If any one come a cross permenant solution to this nussiance please do share

"You can touch to the Assistant Touch on screen and touch to Device -> On Sound or Off Sound. It solve for me. Good luck!

I'm Vietnamese and sorry for my bad English"

This seemed to work so far. Thank you very much.

I guess the mute switch gets disabled somehow after the iOS7 update. The assistant Touch thing worked. Hopefully appe will fix the mute switch.

I have the same problem.

After updating an iPhone 4s to iOS 7, the phone will become muted under a specific circumstance. In particular, the 'muting' happens when the phone runs out of battery and turns off automatically. When you plugin the charger and the device powers on, you will see that it is set to mute when it wasn't before running out of battery.

I have this problem on my iPhone 4.

I use it as a phone most of the day, but since IOS 7 I keep losing mic and speakers - I can't hear them and they can't hear me - which makes it pretty useless as a phone.

I tried the Music app - no sound, but also the app scrolls trough my music library and won't stop on one tune - definitely off.

The only way I've resolved it is to do a full wipe and restore. Unfortunately this hasn't worked today, so I'm at a loss!

Since upgrading to iOS7, I can no longer hear through the earpiece on my iPhone 4S. The speaker phone works, I can hear through external headphones as well. The ringer and alerts are all audible.

The problem is intermittent. Some days it inexplicably works.I have reset my phone and still no fix. I am reluctant to return my phone as I suspect the issue is software, not hardware. I have two weeks to decide if I want to keep this phone or switch to android. My patience is wearing thin waiting for a response from Apple.

I've installed the new iOS 7.0.2 I discovered I wasn't receiving text sounds. Have a look up next to your battery indicator, and see if you have a small crecent moon. If you have this, it's the do not disturb sign.

Swipe up from the bottom you'll see other options including this sign. Make sure it's not turned on, in my case white, press it and make sure this is not displayed next to the battery indicator or bluetooth sign if on.

Good look.
