iTunes Match issues on iOS 7

I have been using iOS 7 since the release of the GM. Overall, I love it - however with the music app, specifically with iTunes Match I am very dissapointed as the usability, for me has gone quite backwards.

Firstly, I have some artists in my collection with vast ammounts of albums (Grateful Dead, Phish, etc). With iOS 6, accessing those artist's albums was instantaneous. In iOS 7, it takes approximately 10-15 seconds from the time I tap the artist to being able to view the albums. When trying to return to the Artists tab, it will also hang for at least 10 seconds.

Second, once within the albums of a particular artist, there is no longer the alphabetical slider along the side which allows me to quickly scrub through the albums. When there are a lot of albums, scrolling manually through every album (and song) is quite tedious. I honestly can't believe how much of a step back this is. Albums no longer are listed alphabetically, now they are listed based on release date.

These issues have me wihing I coud go back to iOS 6, even though the rest of the new interface is great. I can't believe how much worse the music app is now. I can't believe no one at Apple has a music library containing artists with large discographies.

If there isn't a fix to these issues, I will have to cancel my iTunes Match subscription because it is simply too frustrating waiting for things to load and not being able to browse albums efficiently.

If anyone is aware of a fix, or is also frustrated by these issues, please let me know.

I got my 5s Friday.I had a 4 which I updated to ios 7. My itunes match was working fine, but after updating my new phone from a cloud backup my music match no longer works. Been on the phone and email.with apple since saturday. They have sent the case to engineering now. We have tweeked itunes on.my computer, reset the phone for part of the music to show up for less than 30 minutes. My phone is stuck saying loading. I can restart and it show songs that will not play and even then it shows 1200 songs when on my computer the match says I have 19000 songs in the cloud. You can have up to 25000 in the cloud more if some of them are itune purchases. I am very frustrated at this point. If you have not changed over to your new phone and your things work you may want to stick.to what works. I wish I never upgraded. The finger print recognition is not worth this.

Well, my previous attempt at something similar didn't stick.

Tried DirkWestera method. So far, kinda works. So, my steps:

  1. Turn off iTunes Match on Mac
  2. Logoff iTunes Store on iPhone
  3. Reboot phone
  4. Turn on iTunes Match on Mac
  5. Turn on iTunes Store on phone
  6. Turn on iTunes Match on phone (Show All Music was already on)
  7. Download a small playlist of tunes on phone
  8. Sync via USB on iTunes Mac
  9. Lost all downloaded tunes in small playlist
  10. Downloaded on phone album that makes up the small playlist (long story: it's due to my iPod car connection for this arrangement)
  11. Stop phone's Music app
  12. Sync to iTunes: songs still there.
  13. Download a different playlist
  14. Stop phone's Music app
  15. Sync to iTunes: songs still there
  16. Repeating

Have not downloaded other playlists (did five so far), but just ran a couple of syncs with the Music app on the phone running and downloaded songs still there.

So, hopefully, whatever magic bits are set incorrectly are finally clearing.

I am curious to know if you have tried finding a temporary steady-state with iTunes Match turned off on all computers and devices? You could do hard sync's from Mac iTunes via USB separately to your phone and iPod.

I guess I am wondering (in general) what is important about having iTunes Match turned on, if it is not working right, and one can do hard sync's via USB?

As was posted above, Apple seems to be aware of an iTunes Match problem. Perhaps I am missing the importance of having iTunes Match for some reason?

Thanks.

A couple of things I've noticed, and possibly a lot less complicated fix for maybe some.

I think some of the problems are due to Podcast syncing. I was going ok for a few days, then a couple of new podcasts showed up. Downloaded onto iTunes Mac, synced phone, music in playlists showing as not on the phone.

So, ran a couple of quick tests. Disabled Podcast syncing, downloaded some random podcasts, sync. Music still on the phone.

As for the iCloud symbol next to stuff, noticed something weird. In the process of trying to fix above paragraphs, turned off/on iTunes Match on the phone. When off, went into the Songs view to delete any stray stuff there. Noticed all my downloaded songs where still on the phone.

Renabled iTunes Match, only a few tracks in my playlists had the iCloud symbol next to them. Used the "Download All" iCloud "button" to get the last few missing downloaded. Seems to now can't download these stragglers (keeps showing iCloud symbol). Go into the Songs view to look up some of these outliers, see that there are two or more entries for the same track. One or more of these will show that they are downloaded, one will be showing not downloaded.

Put phone into Airplane mode, these outliers drop off the playlists, still have the downloaded tracks listed in Songs, the ones with cloud symbol also drop off here.

So, I'm getting closer to fixing my issues with this all. Next steps/expiriment will be to reset everything on the phone and see if the outlier issue gets fixed.

Want to add to earlier post:

So, downloaded some of my playlists. From the playlist view, things looked OK.

Went into Songs view, the downloaded tracks in playlists were there, but, also had one or two of same track with the "downloading" icon next to it. So, went through the list of songs and deleted the songs in "downloading status".

Resynced the phone via Mac iTunes several times. Seems like the downloaded songs are FINALLY sticking around, and none of the tracks are duplicating and or in download status.

No mas!

Well, back to square one.

A sync caused some of the tunes to get the cloud icon. A sync this morning caused all the songs to get a cloud icon next to them in the playlists. In the Songs view, I get at least two tracks listed for each song: one with no cloud next to it and no cover art, a second or more entry with the cover art and the cloud symbol next to it.

Might try one more experiment of deleting all the playlists and recreating them, see if that does anything. Otherwise, I'm giving up for now, since I can play the songs in my car, and not getting on a plane for a few weeks (hopefully Apple will get this fixed by then).

Just to say that I'm having same problems with songs stuck on processing. I can often give them a push by switching cellular data on in the itunes & app store settings, finding the song in the music app and tapping it. With that setting toggled off I get asked if I want to download over cellular, but it never does.. with it on it seems to work, but I have to remember to switch it off or risk going over my data allowance.

I'm switching to a 5S any day soon so I'll see if it migrates the bug to that. As many people have suggested it sounds like something needs fixing at their end. Let's hope it's soon.

Here is my issue: it may be covered in the 23 pages of posts, but here goes anyway.

I was using a 4s with iOS 7 and iTunes match. Literally every single time I created a playlist on the phone the app would crash. As soon as I clicked "Done" it would go the home screen. Now, 99% of the time all the songs I had added were still there. But it still crashed every time like clockwork.

Today I upgraded to a 5s and now I'm having the exact same experience.
